Follows stablished nursing standards, procedures, and practices and give specific patient care direction to nursing and other staff in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.</p>\n<p><strong>Essential responsibilities:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Follow established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.</li>\n <li>Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with specialists as required and adjust treatment processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.</li>\n <li>Perform CPR when necessary.</li>\n <li>Monitor medical condition of patients and report and document changes appropriate to scope of practice.</li>\n <li>Diagnose and treat patients appropriately, exercising independent judgment, initiating an effective course of action.</li>\n <li>Perform daily information rounds and prepare notes on detainees assigned to medical housing.</li>\n <li>Perform basic procedures including thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, application of dressings and casts.</li>\n <li>Order diagnostic and therapeutic services and assess efficiency, documenting results and making needed changes.</li>\n <li>Consult with facility medical director in a collaborative and cooperative relationship.</li>\n <li>Maintain accurate and comprehensive charting on patient medical records.</li>\n <li>Enhance professional development through participation in educational programs, in-service and workshops.</li>\n <li>Attend scheduled staff meetings; promote communications and proper flow of relevant information in the medical unit.</li>\n <li>Utilize established corporate, facility and corrections policies and procedures in making decisions, while using sound independent judgment in performing the duties of the position.</li>\n <li>Implement basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.</li>\n <li>Maintain security and confidentiality of all patient medical records; observes applicable HIPAA rules.</li>\n <li>Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.</li>\n <li>Comply with all applicable pharmacy regulations, especially those covering controlled substances.</li>\n <li>Assist corporate counsel with responses to detainee lawsuits.</li>\n <li>Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate medical services.</li>\n <li>Comply with requirements of applicable regulations, laws, policies, standards and contracts.</li>\n <li>Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.</li>\n <li>Maintain equipment and supplies.</li>\n <li>Requires long periods of walking and standing.</li>\n <li>Regular attendance required.</li>\n <li>Promote the development of positive social skills among staff and detainees through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.</li>\n <li>Maintain accountability of detainees and property; adhere to safety practices.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Education and experience requirements:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Graduation from an accredited program and current licensure in the state of Texas as a nurse practitioner is required. All education related to the licensure is required. Any additional licenses or certifications (i.e., DEA registration) are required.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Two to five years of experience is recommended, preferably in a correctional environment or emergency medicine.&nbsp;</li>\n <li><strong>Bi-lingual/Spanish preferred&nbsp;</strong>but not required.</li>\n <li>Must possess current CPR certification.</li>\n <li>Must successfully complete required per-service training.</li>\n <li>A valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><i>Management &amp; Training Corporation (MTC) is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
