Description

Description Perform technical surveys for a wide variety of transportation projects. Ensure surveys are completed in compliance with VDOT, state and federal policies, procedures and regulations. To perform technical surveys for a wide range of transportation projects in support of VDOT maintenance and construction programs. To secure data through the use of a wide range of field survey equipment and to ensure the quality of data through routine control procedures. To ensure that all surveys are in compliance with VDOT policies and procedures and APELSCIDLA rules and regulations. To support the Location and Design Division in achieving its mission, goals and objectives. How you will contribute: Computer Skills: Establish and apply procedures to manage the history, locations, access and format of survey related project files. Complete work processes using multiple survey, CADD, and digital terrain modeling software, as well as other non-CADD applications. Engineering Surveys: Conduct a wide range of field survey activities for transportation projects from scoping to post-construction. Follow VDOT policies and procedures and APELSCIDLA rules and regulations governing survey activities. Use a variety of surveying equipment and tools to locate and record field data. Conduct courthouse research on plats. Quality Control: Perform quality control reviews of work products, both in the field and office, to ensure products are accurate and depict the project controls and data to support the project. View plans or plats at the different developmental stages for compliance to standards. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform mathematical calculations using algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Ability to perform physically demanding work in all types of terrain and weather conditions. Ability to read and interpret plans, deeds, plats, road and bridge standards, and property records. Knowledge of field survey equipment (data collectors, GPS, robotic total station, levels, etc.). Knowledge of surveying principles and practices to include location, right of way and construction survey activities. Skill in providing good customer service. Skill in the use of computers and software applications. Skill in the use of surveying instruments and tools, including programmable calculators and electronic data collection equipment. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with customers and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform mathematical calculations using algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Ability to perform physically demanding work in all types of terrain and weather conditions. Ability to read and interpret plans, deeds, plats, road and bridge standards, and property records. Knowledge of field survey equipment. Knowledge of surveying principles and practices to include location, right of way and construction survey activities. Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include CADD.
