Description
Job Title: Direct Support Professional
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, full-Time (guaranteed 30 hours per week)
Scheduled Shift Hours/Days: Floater works variable hours/days
Weekends (Friday - Monday) including, but not limited to: awake overnight shift, day shift, afternoon shifts)
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
Assist and train individuals to enable the individual to maintain health status, develop skills in instrumental activities of daily living and adapting to community and home environments.
COMPETENCIES

Technical/Professional Knowledge and Skills: Possesses, acquires, and maintains the technical/professional expertise required to do the job effectively and to create client/customer solutions. Work Standards: Sets high standards and well-defined, realistic goals for one’s self; displays a high level of effort and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervisor; is motivated to achieve.
Customer/Client Focus: Makes customers/clients and their needs a primary focus of one’s actions; shows interest in and understanding of the needs and expectations of internal and external customers (including direct reports); gains customer trust and respect; meets or exceeds customer expectations
Collaboration: Builds constructive working relationships with clients/customers, other work units, community organizations and others to meet mutual goals and objectives. Behaves professionally and supportively when working with individuals from a variety of
ethnic, social and educational backgrounds.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation
• 1 - 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities (preferred)
• Ability to deal with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment.
• Clean driving record
• Appropriate safety equipment and first aid kit in personal vehicle.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
• Train in functional skills related to personal care (toileting, bathing, grooming, dressing, eating, ect.)
• Train in functional skills related to use of community resources (transportation, shopping, social and recreational activities, ect.)
• Monitor health and physical condition and assist with medication, if they have competed medication management, or medical needs
as applicable
• Assist with personal care, ADLs and use of community resources (completing personal care tasks when physically unable to do so,
ensure hygiene and eating needs are met, complete daily tasks).
• Supervise to ensure individuals health and safety at all time.
• Training in adapting behavior for home and community (redirecting anger, handling social encounters with other, developing a circle of
support).
• Maintain knowledge of individuals’ daily goals and document work on achieving those daily goals.
• Complete and turn in required documentation in a timely manner.
• Maintain accurate time by clocking in and out at the start and end of shift.
• Maintain current personal car insurance.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands/fingers to touch, handle and/or reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

TRAVEL/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
