Description
JOB GOAL
The job of General Maintenance Specialist was established for the purpose/s of providing maintenance services as needed
and/or assigned; assisting in a wide variety of maintenance activities; addressing immediate operational and/or safety
concerns; assisting skilled trades; and ensuring that tools, materials and vehicles are maintained in good working order and
are available at job site when needed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School Diploma or G.E.D.
· One year of responsible experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Performs minor and major repairs of all buildings and equipment. (Major repairs are performed
under the supervision of licensed maintenance workers.)
· Performs preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis, inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc., and repairs or replaces broken parts.
· Cleans and inspects boiler; treats water with proper chemicals.
· Calibrates and repairs pneumatic systems
Replaces broken windows; repairs doors, door locks, and closets; installs window blinds.
· Completes daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
· May operate a computer that controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems.
· Installs electrical wiring and equipment; new electrical services, wiring during remodeling projects; replaces and repairs wiring as needed.
· Repairs electrical equipment and control circuits; replaces faulty electrical switches; repairs
refrigeration equipment.
· May repair electrical locks and control panels to maintain building security.
· May install computer cable.
· Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
· Assists with the renovation/remodeling of buildings; repairs plaster and drywall; paints building
structures.
· Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
· Performs outside custodial duties such as snow removal as required.
· May obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts, and order parts as needed.
Actively participate in the full implementation of the DOVE model for School Improvement.
· Performs other job-related duties as required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and oral forms, with all levels of management—internal and external to the district.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
Ability to organize special programs for the assigned campus.
Ability to use computers, including software, databases used by the district, spreadsheets, word processing software, calculators, copy machines, and telephones.
Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light Work: may require occasional light lifting.
Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
Position is in the school setting and requires prolonged work at a desk in one location, walking, and standing.
Moderate travel is required.
