Description Intertek is searching for a Grain Inspector - Union (Part-time) to join our Caleb Brett team in our Levis, QC office. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in Agricultural field inspection ! Under broad supervision, to render to customers commodity inspection services which are timely, safe, legal, ethical, and effective; to perform the necessary volume measurements, temperature measurements, sampling, calculations, documentation, and reporting which ensure that the customer receives an independent, accurate, and complete assessment of quantity and quality of material. The Grain Inspector is responsible for : SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES To prepare for and organize grain inspection jobs so that services are rendered, and reports and samples are submitted, in a timely manner. To attend commodity material movements involving loading and unloading of rail cars or trucks. To perform routine equipment calibration, verification, and function checks. To perform, by specified methodology, visual observation, volume measurement, temperature measurement, and sampling of commodity materials contained or conveyed in rail cars or trucks. To communicate and coordinate with loading facilities and Intertek management personnel to promote the smoother exercise of duties assigned. To verify and communicate the results obtained, and to make the entries into the appropriate media, whether print or electronic, required to ensure the validity and traceability of the information. To maintain work areas, records, and equipment in a clean, organized, and functional condition. To monitor the availability of the supplies needed for the above processes, and to make any needs for such supplies known to the Inspection and Training Coordinator. To assist in the inspection, quality system application and organizational training of less experienced employees by utilizing approved online and printed materials and/or materials supplied by Intertek management. To carry out the above responsibilities, and all others which may be assigned, in a manner demonstrating support for and adherence to the Company’s Safety Policy and Procedures, Quality Policy and Procedures, Ethics Policy, Environmental Management System, Vision and Strategy, and exercise good judgment, common sense, and diplomacy in so doing. SUPERVISION EXERCISED In the formal (organizational chart) sense, the position of Grain Inspector carries no personnel responsibility or authority. Where two or more Grain Inspectors are on a job, the Grain Inspectors share joint responsibility for the accurate and timely completion of all job functions and paperwork. The Grain Inspector has supervisory responsibility and authority in the training of less experienced employees, Inspection Assistants and Assistant Inspectors SUPERVISION RECEIVED The position reports directly to the Branch Manager and Operations Manager. Regardless of reporting lines, the position will cooperate fully with all Branch, Area, and regional departments in dealing with the assigned responsibilities. The position communicates directly with the Manager-Inspection Operations in the day-to-day operations and in communication of work assignments and direction. QUALIFICATIONS The Grain Inspector must have a grasp of basic mathematics and computer skills, and must, in the opinion of the hiring authority hold a Canadian grain grading certification, minimum level 3. The Grain Inspector must be physically able to do the work required and cannot be afraid of heights or of confined spaces. The Grain Inspector should have a positive attitude, a high tolerance for job pressure and the ability to work and communicate with people of diverse personalities and backgrounds. Language requirements, proficiency in spoken and written English and at least an intermediate level of spoken French, due to daily contact with clients, suppliers, partners, and colleagues outside Quebec.
