    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p><strong>ABOUT THE POSITION</strong></p>\n<p><strong>TRANSPORTATION ROADWAY ENGINEER | RICHMOND, VA | VIRGINIA BEACH, VA | HYBRID</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>VHB’s Richmond and Virginia Beach, VA offices are seeking a Transportation Roadway Engineer to join our team.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Duties include highway design, development of traffic management plans, cost estimating, right-of-way and construction plans. Our multi-disciplined team uses its skills and experience to improve our communities with a sustainable, context driven and integrated project delivery mindset. Sponsored by Deloitte Private and <em>The Wall Street Journal</em>, the award celebrates companies demonstrating excellence in strategy, execution, culture, and financial performance—qualities that continue to drive our growth and success.</p>\n<p>To learn more about this designation, visit: News | VHB Recognized as a 2025 U.S. Best Managed Company | VHB</p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Perform engineering duties as a Project Engineer, including analysis and design for complex transportation projects, grading, and plan development</li>\n <li>Contribute to the design and production of transportation projects such as highway widenings/reconstructions, intersection improvements, roundabouts, and shared-use/bike-pedestrian facilities</li>\n <li>Help develop and deliver client-facing documents, including construction plans, while maintaining adherence to project budgets and schedules</li>\n <li>Apply VHB standards and industry best practices to ensure quality control of work products</li>\n <li>Support marketing efforts through technical input for proposals and presentation materials</li>\n <li>Contribute to the coordination of multi-disciplinary design teams, including collaboration with subconsultants</li>\n <li>Partner with technical specialists to resolve design challenges, coordination issues, and conflicting criteria</li>\n <li>Provide support during the bidding phase, including preparation of addenda, amendments, and bid reviews/tabulations</li>\n <li>Participate in construction phase services, including site visits, responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings</li>\n <li>Mentor and support the professional growth of entry-level Transportation staff</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Skills/Abilities</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and willingness to serve in a variety of roles within a design team</li>\n <li>Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills</li>\n <li>AutoCAD with Civil 3D Corridor experience and/or MicroStation with Geopak, Open Roads experience or Open Roads Designer is strongly preferred.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>BS in Civil Engineering required, MS a plus</li>\n <li>3–5+ years of professional transportation engineering experience required</li>\n <li>EIT required, PE certification preferred</li>\n</ul>\n<p> <strong> </strong></p>\n<p><strong> </strong></p>\n<p><strong>Building what’s next, together.</strong></p>\n<p>Our people make the difference.
