Description

About KIPP NYC: Founded in 1995, KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of 18 free, public charter schools located in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. We partner with families and communities to create joyful, academically excellent schools where every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities. From our first middle school, KIPP Academy in the Bronx, to today’s network of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, and one high school, KIPP NYC provides students with engaging academics, arts, athletics, and social–emotional learning that prepare them for college, career, and beyond. Our commitment doesn’t end at graduation. Through KIPP Forward, we continue to support our alumni as they navigate college, career, and life, helping them define success on their own terms and pursue the paths that align with their goals and sense of purpose. Together, we serve more than 9,400 students, support 4,700 alumni, and employ over 1,100 dedicated team members who bring passion, expertise, and commitment to our mission every day. Position Overview: The school operations administrator is responsible for overseeing the school office, and maintenance of office equipment, and acts as the first point of contact for families and visitors to the school. Specifically, the SOA is responsible for maintaining complete student files for each child, serving as the manager of student health and medical information, and playing a critical role in the school’s day to day operations. The SOA works as the lead in executing advocacy tasks and managing core family engagement efforts, such as supporting the school’s KIPP Family Association and ensuring high attendance at family events. The SOA reports directly to the School Operations Manager. Duties and Responsibilities: General responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Daily Operations: Support core school systems, including arrival, attendance, transitions, lunch/recess, and dismissal. Serve as a primary point of contact in the main office for students, staff, families, and visitors. Communication: Communicate clearly and professionally with a range of stakeholders. Respond to emails and phone calls within 24–48 hours and foster a welcoming, student-centered environment. Data & Compliance: Manage daily attendance processes, maintain accurate student records, and ensure completion of required documentation (e.g., immunizations, lunch forms). Support ATS tasks, data submissions, and MetroCard distribution. Office & Event Management: Support school events through logistics, setup, and coordination. Maintain a clean, organized, and fully operational main office, including managing calls and student documentation. Family Engagement: Prepare and distribute family communications, including flyers and notices. Support family engagement initiatives, including KIPP Family Association events and advocacy efforts. Student Health & Safety: Respond to student health needs and coordinate with the school nurse as needed. Serve as a member of the Building Response Team (BRT) and support emergency response procedures. Additional Responsibilities: Ensure office supplies and equipment are maintained. Participate in school-wide activities, including field trips and enrichment programs, in support of the school’s mission. Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment and a healthy measure of the character traits we value: zest, grit, hope, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and school operations systems; computer literate. Outstanding written and oral communication skills; effectively communicates with diverse backgrounds. Takes responsibility for impact, adjusts accordingly, and embraces growth opportunities. Excellent at prioritization, with high attention to detail. Proactive, and able to manage high responsibility levels. Passionate about supporting the mission of KIPP NYC and dedicated to professional growth. KIPP NYC offers a competitive hourly rate ranging from $18/hour - $25/hour. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience. KIPP NYC offers a generous benefits package including, but not limited to, the following: Robust benefits include medical, dental, and vision.  Generous time off including 5 school vacation weeks, sick and personal days, and an extended summer break.  Up to 12 weeks of 100% parental leave.  Bright Horizon Back-up Child and Elder Care.
