Description

Purpose of the Role As an Engineering Technician, you will support our R&D team in the development, validation, and daily operation of laboratory processes and tools. As a Laboratory Systems Developer, you will take technical ownership of an in house sample traceability and laboratory workflow system that is used daily across our engineering labs. Approximately 80% of the role focuses on software and system ownership, including maintenance, improvement, and reliable day to day operation of the system and its data flows. The remaining 20% involves hands on support within the electromechanical R&D lab, ensuring that software tools align seamlessly with real world engineering and testing activities. The role is ideally suited for someone who enjoys combining software development, system responsibility, and close interaction with engineers and lab users. Key Responsibilities Sample Traceability & Laboratory Software (in-house written) •    Maintain and support a web based sample traceability and laboratory workflow system •    Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve software issues across frontend, backend, and database layers •    Implement small improvements, extensions, and configuration changes based on user needs •    Support engineers and technicians in using the system correctly and efficiently •    Monitor system behavior, logs, and data consistency •    Document system functionality, technical procedures, and known issues •    Take technical ownership of the system as part of the R&D team Laboratory & Engineering Support (Secondary / Complementary) •    Support electromechanical lab setups and test activities when required •    Assist with test execution, measurement setups, and result documentation •    Perform basic CAD work or technical drawings to support lab setups or fixtures •    Act as a bridge between software tools and physical lab workflows Technical skills MUST HAVE •    Hands on experience with software development or technical scripting •    Proven experience maintaining and working with existing codebases •    Solid experience with at least two of the following, and willingness to learn the others: o    Python o    TypeScript / JavaScript o    SQL (PostgreSQL or similar) •    Ability to read, debug, and maintain existing codebases •    Comfortable working with structured and traceable data •    Strong analytical mindset and ability to work independently NICE TO HAVE •    Experience with React or another modern frontend framework (Angular, Vue, …) •    Familiarity with Docker or similar container technologies •    Exposure to cloud-based storage, system integrations, or APIs •    Experience working in an engineering, industrial, or laboratory environment LEARN‑ON‑THE‑JOB / BONUS (Interest is more important than experience) •    Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion) •    Basic knowledge of PLC programming or control systems •    Hands‑on involvement in electromechanical setups or lab testing Profile & Qualifications •    Professional Bachelor in IT, Applied Computer Science, Electronics, Mechatronics (or equivalent due to experience) •    2–5 years of relevant experience in a technical or IT oriented role •    Experience in an R&D engineering, laboratory, or industrial environment is a strong plus •    Work primarily onsite, in close collaboration with lab users and operations •    English required, Dutch is an asset •    Strong self‑learning ability and curiosity •    Structured and accurate working style •    Clear communicator, able to collaborate effectively with engineers and technicians •    Hands on mindset with a practical problem solving approach Why CommScope: CommScope is on a quest to deliver connectivity that empowers how we live, work, and learn. Our employees push the boundaries of communications technology that enables game-changing discoveries like 5G, the Internet of Things, and gigabit speeds for everyone, everywhere. With our unmatched expertise in copper, fiber, and wireless infrastructure, our global clients rely on us to outperform today and be ready for the needs of tomorrow.
