Description

Who We Are AMS Corporation is a nuclear engineering services company based in Knoxville, Tennessee, with a mission to ensure the safe operation of the worldwide nuclear fleet. Founded in 1977 as a spinoff of Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee, AMS has nearly 50 years of experience developing innovative testing technologies and engineering solutions that help nuclear facilities maintain safe, reliable, and compliant instrumentation and control (I&C) systems. What We Do AMS supports nuclear facilities worldwide with specialized expertise in years in the areas of instrumentation and control (I&C) system testing, digital I&C qualification, EMI/RFI troubleshooting, cable aging management, nuclear instrumentation system troubleshooting, wireless technology implementation, rod control system testing, online monitoring for condition-based maintenance, and custom data acquisition equipment development. Our engineers work across all U.S. nuclear power plants and many in Europe and Asia as well as research reactors and national security installations to ensure systems perform safely, reliably, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements. What It’s Like to Work Here At AMS, you’ll join a collaborative team of experts across nuclear, electrical, mechanical, computer, and materials engineering. We invest heavily in research and development, encourage creativity in problem-solving, and provide hands-on opportunities to contribute from day one. Many employees build long careers here because they’re able to learn continuously, take on diverse technical challenges, and work in an environment guided by teamwork, respect, and shared purpose. As a Field Services Technician on the Cable Testing & Technical Services Team, you will play a key role in supporting nuclear and industrial facilities by performing advanced on-site testing for performance evaluations, diagnostics, condition monitoring, and troubleshooting using AMS’s proprietary platforms and other specialized tools. In this hands-on, travel-intensive role, you will conduct non-destructive electrical testing to assess equipment health and support clients during normal plant operation, outages, and/or commissioning activities. Through careful data collection, clear communication, and reliable field execution, you will help ensure the long-term safety, performance, and reliability of critical plant systems across the nuclear fleet. What You’ll Do Travel to assigned locations as needed to perform field service work in support of operational needs. Apply a strong technical background to learn and carry out specialized testing, maintenance, or service activities under established procedures and training.  Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders and external partners, providing timely updates on work performed, issues encountered, and next steps.  Work cooperatively with team members, demonstrating a teachable spirit and a desire to grow through hands-on training and mentorship.  Provide an orderly, safe, and efficient work environment by consistently following organizational policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.  Follow all guidelines and expectations as set forth by organizational leadership. Who We’re Looking For Demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and a strong work ethic; maintains a consistent employment history and shows commitment to long-term career growth in technical fields.  Brings genuine enthusiasm for extensive travel (90–110 days annually) and is willing and able to travel on weekends, holidays, and at short notice with a positive attitude.  Exhibits strong customer-service skills and professional communication ability; comfortable engaging with technical personnel and external clients at nuclear facilities.  Applies critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex systems independently and work effectively under pressure in dynamic field environments.  Shows self-motivation and eagerness to learn; embraces hands-on training, asks questions, and demonstrates a teachable spirit committed to developing expertise over a structured multi-year learning process.  Operates as a flexible, adaptable team player with a positive attitude; collaborates effectively, respects colleagues, and contributes to strong working relationships within the team. Required Qualifications Holds an associate degree in electronics, or equivalent technical training such as military instruction, or brings hands-on experience in field services, instrumentation, electrical systems, or related maintenance work.  Demonstrates prior travel experience and shows genuine eagerness to travel extensively (90–110 days annually), including during peak seasons (spring and fall), with willingness to travel on weekends and holidays when client needs require.  Brings hands-on technical skills, including the ability to read electrical schematics, use multimeters and lab equipment, solder, and troubleshoot electronic systems; shows mechanical aptitude and strong manual dexterity.  Communicates professionally with strong customer-service orientation; works effectively with nuclear facility personnel and external clients while representing the company professionally.  Shows strong work ethic, reliability, and stability (demonstrated by consistent employment history); is a self-motivated learner who embraces hands-on training, remains patient during structured multi-year technical development, and maintains a positive attitude in high-responsibility environments.  This position involves work under U.S. Department of Energy contracts and requires access to nuclear facilities. As a result, U.S. citizenship is required to meet federal compliance and security-access regulations. Compensation & Benefits Health Coverage – Generous employer contributions toward comprehensive health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance  Retirement – 401(k) with generous employer matching contributions  Paid Time Off – Four weeks annual vacation plus at least 10 paid holidays per year  Professional Development – AMS is committed to your growth as a technical specialist; mentorship by senior engineers and PhDs, access to professional conferences, and continuing education opportunities in nuclear engineering and advanced analysis  Career Growth – Annual salary reviews, raises, and advancement opportunities within a fast-paced, team-oriented, mission-driven organization AMS Corporation is an equal opportunity employer. We comply with all applicable employment laws and do not discriminate based on any protected characteristic. Certain roles may require U.S. citizenship or other federally mandated clearances. This job posting is being managed by FractionalRecruiter on behalf of AMS Corporation.
