          "text": "<p><strong>Basic Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Are 18 years of age or over;</li><li>Are legally entitled to work in Canada;</li><li>Live within the Campbell River Fire Protection area;</li><li>Are able to complete a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check, with no criminal record that would prevent you from being a firefighter;</li><li>You meet the NFPA standards for medical, vision and hearing (See Section D, to be assessed during the recruitment process);</li><li>Hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License (or Class 7 if driving less than four years) with less than 7 points in past 3 years;</li><li>Hold a current first-aid certificate of at least seven (7) hours of instruction;</li><li>Are comfortable being in confined spaces;</li><li>Are comfortable working at heights;</li><li>Work well under pressure;</li><li>Are a strong team player;</li><li>Are able to physically perform the duties;</li><li>Are willing to work in dangerous and unpleasant situations;</li><li>Can conduct yourself with professionalism;</li><li>Are able to take calculated risks to help others in need;</li><li>Have good communication skills;</li><li>Are able to continue working despite physical discomfort.</li></ul><p><strong>You will be</strong><strong> expected to be able to perform the following duties:</strong></p><ul><li>Combating, extinguishing and preventing fires and the saving of life and property;</li><li>Responding to fire alarms, laying and connecting hose, directing water streams, raising and climbing ladders, using portable extinguishers, and other firefighting, rescue and safety tools and equipment;</li><li>Searching for and rescuing people from danger and administering first-aid to the injured;</li><li>Ventilating premises to release heat and smoke, placing salvage covers to prevent water damage;</li><li>As assigned, driving and operating motor driven firefighting equipment;</li><li>Performing routine housekeeping and routine maintenance of fire department equipment and fire stations;</li><li>Participating in training, drills and practice sessions;</li><li>Participating in rescue and safety, or public service call activities; taking responsibility for effective disposition of such emergencies;</li><li>Participating in community events and fundraising activities.</li></ul>",
