Description

Position Description We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented and results-driven PhD to join our company in the Biology group. This role requires an individual who with minimal supervision can independently design and conduct research, is hands-on at the bench, is capable of generating good quality data, and can also provide assistance and support to the Senior Scientist-level colleagues. Candidates should be comfortable in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment. This individual will work closely with our team to understand the molecular and biochemical pathways through which our new compounds work in the context of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. This research position will support Intra-Cellular Therapies’ goals to develop innovative treatments to improve the health of patients suffering from CNS diseases, including psychiatric and mood disorders. Responsibilities Planning, execution, and analysis of complex experimental designs to evaluate pathways mediating psychiatric actions of experimental compounds in vivo using molecular biological and biochemical methods. Designing, developing, and executing animal models of anxiety and depression for the purpose of characterizing the impact of pharmacological treatments on behavior. Development, designing and execution of RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, Western blot, ELISA, IHC, IF, flow cytometry. Rodent husbandry and colony maintenance, monitoring health status of animals, animal handling, compound dosing (IV, IP, SC, PO), animal behavioral testing, performing rodent brain dissection, non-terminal and terminal blood collection, processing, and analysis. Performing assays, troubleshooting complications, and proposing innovative solutions to address challenges. Preparing technical reports, data presentations, summaries, protocols, and accurate notebook documentation. Maintaining good laboratory and safety practices and ensuring a clean and orderly environment. Completing all company and job-related training as assigned within the required timelines. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice. Requirements PhD with 0-3 or more years of experience in neuroscience, cell biology, pharmacology, or related disciplines. Immunology experience is highly desirable. Experience in the study of brain inflammation at the molecular and biochemical level is highly desirable. Previous experience with safe handling of laboratory animals and expertise in tissue dissection is essential. Experience in molecular biology (RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, western blot), flow cytometry, and cell culture in a BSL2 environment. Ability to rapidly acquire additional necessary skills, as needed. Familiar with Good Laboratory Practices and trained in maintaining safe working environment. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with commonly used data analysis programs such as Excel and Prism strongly preferred. Enthusiastic, responsible, team player, with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Detail-oriented and well organized in record documentation, multitasking and troubleshooting. Ability to generate high quality data within the allocated time frame to meet the given objectives. Able to work independently on assigned tasks, as well as alongside others from a diverse background.
