Title: Baseball Operations R&D Intern Department: Baseball Operations Location:  San Francisco, CA Status: Part-Time; Non-Exempt Position Summary: The San Francisco Giants are seeking an analytically-focused intern to join the R+D department within Baseball Operations, with opportunities available for both summer and year-round internships. This individual will be part of the R&D team and focus on providing support to ongoing research projects while owning some small initiatives themselves. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, demonstrated ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment, and both passion and intellectual curiosity for the game of baseball. Position Responsibilities: ●        Actively participate in research initiatives within the Modeling, Research, and Performance Science Depts. ●        Act as a thought partner in project design and methodology, offering careful consideration of factors like uncertainty, confounding variables, and signal-to-noise ratio. ●        Prototype research outputs into lightweight tools and visualizations for use across Baseball Ops. ●        Perform ad-hoc statistical analysis and quantitative research to support various areas of Baseball Ops. ●        Own small-scale (or larger!) research projects and see them through to completion. ●        Keep up-to-date on the frontier of public baseball research and AI tool integration to enhance workflows. Skills and Qualifications: ●        Experience in a quantitative field, such as engineering, physical sciences, computer science, or applied math. ●        Fluency in SQL and at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g. Python, R). ●        Top-notch critical thinking skills, including ability to identify data issues; ability to articulate assumptions, limitations, and uncertainties in a process; and ability to distill complex topics into interpretable results. ●        Passion and curiosity for baseball analytics. ●        Strong work ethic with a voracious appetite to learn on the fly. ●        Positive attitude and willingness to contribute to team culture. ●        Experience with machine learning and/or computer vision is a plus. At the San Francisco Giants, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation. Including your background and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary. The hourly range for this position will be $25.00 to $30.00. At the Giants, we believe we put our best work forward when our employees bring together ideas that are diverse in thought. We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, medical condition or disability, genetic condition, marital status, domestic partnership status, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, age, sexual orientation, military or veteran status and any other protected class under federal, state or local law.
