Description RESIDENTIAL FLEET TECHNICIAN Solid Waste Pay Range: $24.66/hr. - $35.77/hr. / $51,292.80 - $74,401.60 annually $1000.00 Sign on Bonus available. ** Internal candidates should apply via Polk One- Me Section ** Location: Polk County Landfill (10 Environmental Loop, Winter Haven, FL 33830 Employee Benefits Direct Deposit, Bi-Weekly Pay Checks Medical, Dental, Vision Life Insurance FRS Retirement 10 Paid Holidays Paid Time Off Tuition Reimbursement Education Incentives Deferred Compensation Plan Wellness Incentives Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Free Employee Gym Free Employee Health Clinic Must have the physical, developmental and mental ability to perform job tasks, work efforts, responsibilities and duties of the job illustrated below: ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES Skilled mechanical work at the journeyman level in the maintenance and repair of diesel and/or gasoline powered on and off highway equipment. Responsible for the entire maintenance spectrum including diagnosis, repair, and overhaul of rubber tired and tracked vehicles including those with hydraulically powered work mechanisms. Must troubleshoot, disassemble, repair and reassemble components of all sizes and types involving the mechanical operation of the vehicles/equipment described above. Performs preventive maintenance including oil and filter changes and lubrication. May change tires. Operates both arc and oxygen/acetylene welding equipment. Uses both hand and air driven power tools and other related shop equipment. Performs repairs both at shop and on field located job sites. Performs emergency road service during and beyond routine business hours when required. Completes and maintains repair orders, part requisitions, time sheets, and other records as required. Maintains a clean working area. May occasionally oversee the work of others. May be required to demonstrate proficiency in the use of modern diagnostic equipment. Performs related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of the automotive and heavy equipment trade. Such as, Waste Compactors, Bull Dozers, Excavators, Off Road Dump Trucks, Front End Loaders, Automated Side Loaders, Moto Graders, Roll-Off Trucks, Skid Steers, Rollers and Light Duty Vehicles. Knowledge of safe work practices associated with the prevention of injuries caused from inattention to the occupational hazards of the trade. Knowledge of electrical systems (including interpreting schematic diagrams), hydraulics (automotive and heavy), internal combustion engines, and drive train (rotary and tracked) which are common to the automotive and heavy equipment trades. Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair the variety of equipment referenced above. Ability to read and understand repair manuals, diagrams, drawings, pm lists/diagrams and computer repairs. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform mathematical tasks. Ability to research, investigate, experiment, detect, inspect, verify, recognize, and recommend solutions. Ability to think rationally, react calmly and responsively in stressful or emergency situations. Ability to perform physically difficult tasks. The ability to work on equipment overhead causing much of the manual work performed with raised aims and hands above the head for extended periods of time. The ability to operate hand tools and torque wrenches requiring in excess of 100 pounds of lateral pressure applied to the tool. The ability to work in confined spaces such as pit areas, engine compartments and underneath vehicles requiring significant bending and/or stooping to access critical areas of the equipment being repaired. Ability to perform duties on a variety of floor surfaces, both flat and variable. The ability to work with and around various chemicals such as diesel fuel, gasoline, motor oil, hydraulic fluid, cleaning solvents, anti-freeze and other substances common to Heavy equipment and Landfill environment repair trade. Ability to see. Ability to ambulate independently, drive and operate unassisted, automotive and heavy equipment as described above. Ability to bend, stoop, sit, crouch, crawl, climb and stand. Ability to lift and hold parts and components in excess of sixty five (65) pounds. Ability and agility to perform various tasks in all weather conditions. Work environment includes waste processing facilities including Landfills, Transfer stations and Recycling processing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an equivalency diploma and have a minimum of five (5) years of experience repairing equipment of the types noted above which included three (3) years as a Journeyman Mechanic. A comparable amount of training and related experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must provide customary hand tools, common to the automotive and mechanical trade. Experience in the landfill/transfer station/recycling center environment. This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County. SPECIAL PREFERENCE Prefer applicants be ASE certified or possess related certifications. Familiar with Leachate pump stations and sumps.
