    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">We’re looking for an Underwriter, Allied Medical.</span></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Working remotely or based in Richmond, Virginia and reporting to the Allied Medical Division Manager, who is based in Richmond,</span> this role will help drive the development of the Allied Medical liability book. The purpose of this role is for a talented, dynamic, and technical Underwriter to bring healthcare liability underwriting experience to the Allied Medical team. This role will focus on Excess &amp; Surplus lines placements using Hamilton Select's E&amp;S platform that is rated A by AM Best.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">While there is a preference to be based in Richmond, VA, we are open to a remote working location for appropriately qualified candidates.  </span></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with wholesale brokers in the US to build a profitable portfolio of Allied Medical liability insurance. Exceptional service is a must. This role will include occasional business travel.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">What you will do</span></p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n<li>Underwrite healthcare liability insurance for long-term care facilities, social services agencies, drug and alcohol rehab organizations, group homes, adoption and foster care, home health care and medical staffing agencies, among others.</li>\n<li>Contribute to Hamilton’s strategy to grow and diversify the Healthcare portfolio.</li>\n<li>Establish and maintain underwriting standards and discipline to ensure the delivery of profitable results</li>\n<li>Underwrite business in accordance with guidelines to maintain underwriting standards and discipline to ensure delivery of profitable results.</li>\n<li>Drive the general use of technology to produce superior profit and establish an ease-of-doing business reputation with our appointed trading partners</li>\n<li>Originate, grow and develop high level market relationships with brokers.</li>\n<li>Use critical thinking skills to negotiate terms.</li>\n<li>Assist in training and mentoring of new employees.</li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">What you require for the role</span></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Key Attributes</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">An established underwriter with 3 plus years underwriting experience (handling healthcare and social services classes) and a strong technical reputation in the U.S. healthcare liability market, with the ability to further develop themselves.</span></li>\n<li>Understands, is comfortable with, and able to support a business strategy that focuses on writing niche lines</li>\n<li>Proven track record of generating new leads, applying sound judgement to a broad range of situations and opportunities, and building a substantial portfolio of business from a small base</li>\n<li>Ability to attract business from existing relationships and to nurture and develop new relationships</li>\n<li>Appreciation of both the subjective and objective aspects to underwriting risk and a willingness to justify decision-making processes at the highest levels in the organization</li>\n<li>Breadth of understanding of market trends and nuances</li>\n<li>Proven ability to generate an underwriting profit</li>\n<li>Integrity in all internal and external relationships</li>\n<li>Shared focus on expense management and managing the overall business operations to maximize shareholder returns</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Other Personal Attributes:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Motivated, self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset</li>\n<li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills</li>\n<li>Proven decision-making skills.</li>\n<li>Good management, coaching and mentoring skills</li>\n<li>Approachable and able to clearly market business</li>\n<li>Keen attention to detail, highly analytical and excellent problem-solving capability</li>\n<li>Demonstrates an understanding and capacity to effectively engage in the negotiation process.
