Description
The Bookstore Clerk is a full-time, 12‑month general staff position reporting to the Bookstore Manager. This role is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the campus bookstore, including inventory management, ordering, stocking, and selling textbooks, school supplies, and merchandise. The Bookstore Clerk provides high‑quality customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors while ensuring accurate retail and financial practices. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced retail environment. Some evening, weekend, and extended hours are required to support departmental needs and campus events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent
Associates degree preferred
Managerial, retail, finance, or accounting experience required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist with inspection of merchandise and reconciles with purchase orders
Prices merchandise according to Bookstore’s pricing policy
Provide customer service to students, faculty and staff
Assist with ordering, selling, and buying back textbooks
Order and stock soft goods and other supplies for resale
Conduct annual inventory of all resale merchandise in bookstore
Communicate with faculty on textbook orders and changes in textbook
Perform retail sales activities via cash register
Maintains the storeroom and front Bookstore service area in a neat and orderly manner
Adhere to NWCC policies and procedures
Perform other duties as assigned by the Bookstore Manager, Director of Union Service and Administration
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Computer application skills to complete work orders
Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with staff and others.
Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team.
Flexible schedule is required to meet department needs, as some evenings, weekends, and extended hours may be required
After hours work for events set up and clean up required during events
Managerial, retail, finance, or accounting experience required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to do the following:
Some evening, weekend, and extended hours are required to support departmental needs and campus events
May be required to assist at other college campuses
Communicate with others in person
Sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
Continuously walk, climb stairs, stand, bend, and squat
Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds,
