Description

Overview POSITION OVERVIEW: The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs that ensure compliance with applicable regulations while promoting a culture of safety throughout the manufacturing organization. This role partners with operations, engineering, maintenance, quality, and leadership teams to minimize workplace risks, prevent injuries, protect the environment, and drive continuous improvement in EHS performance. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following statements describe the general nature and scope of work performed in this role. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or tasks, as additional duties may be assigned. This description outlines the minimum qualifications required for entry into the position and may not reflect the full range of qualifications held by current incumbents. Safety Management Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs, policies, and procedures. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. Lead hazard identification, risk assessments, and corrective action initiatives. Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and workplace assessments. Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and environmental events to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Manage workers' compensation and return-to-work programs as applicable. Coordinate emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities. Maintain safety records and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements. Environmental Compliance Ensure compliance with environmental permits, reporting requirements, and applicable regulations. Manage waste handling, storage, recycling, and disposal programs. Monitor air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, and hazardous materials programs as required. Coordinate environmental inspections and regulatory agency interactions. Lead sustainability and environmental improvement initiatives. Training & Culture Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, contractors, and visitors. Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement and awareness programs. Support behavioral-based safety initiatives and employee safety committees. Provide coaching and guidance to supervisors and managers on EHS matters. Continuous Improvement Establish EHS performance metrics and report results to leadership. Analyze trends and develop strategies to reduce incidents and environmental impacts. Lead continuous improvement projects focused on risk reduction and operational excellence. Support capital projects, equipment installations, and process changes by evaluating EHS risks. Leadership & Collaboration Serve as the primary EHS subject matter expert for the facility. Partner with operations, engineering, maintenance, quality, human resources, and leadership teams to achieve EHS objectives. Manage relationships with regulatory agencies, auditors, consultants, and external stakeholders. May supervise EHS specialists, coordinators, or other safety personnel. REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: Required Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Occupational Safety, related field or equivalent experience. 5–8+ years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable environmental regulations. Experience conducting incident investigations, risk assessments, and safety audits. Excellent communication, leadership, and training skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Key Competencies Leadership and influence Regulatory compliance expertise Risk assessment and mitigation Incident investigation and root cause analysis Training and employee engagement Data analysis and reporting Project management Continuous improvement mindset Physical Requirements Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, chemicals, and varying temperatures. Ability to walk production floors. Preferred Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent. Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems. Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
