    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Performs basic assigned laboratory tasks.</li>\n <li>Obtains specimens from the patient/donor to perform the testing required by the physician/client.</li>\n <li>Prepares the samples for testing/transport, test samples, and reports results/dispatch to the designated personnel/client.</li>\n <li>Maintains all certifications required by the laboratory and performs all duties while maintaining the Standards of the Laboratory, Corporation, Regulatory and Accrediting Agencies. </li>\n <li>Proves competent in the laboratory by passing all competency examinations required by the laboratory. </li>\n <li>Phlebotomist reports to the Laboratory Administrative Director or designee and does not supervise anyone.</li>\n <li>This position has direct contact with patients and other hospital personnel.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, finger stick, heel stick, and bleeding time) according to established procedure. </li>\n <li>Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes. </li>\n <li>Determines priority of STAT draws. Ensures timely transport of all patient specimens for testing.</li>\n <li>Utilizes computers as appropriate in completing assigned functions.</li>\n <li>Helps co-workers when needed and communicates with laboratory departments when needed to ensure an orderly work flow.</li>\n <li>Under supervision will help in the training of new employees and student interns at the hospital in the performance of phlebotomy duties. </li>\n <li>Follows all organizational and department or unit policies and procedures.</li>\n <li>Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety and specific job-related hazards.</li>\n <li>Responsibly follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Blood borne and Airborne Pathogens. </li>\n <li>Demonstrates respect and regard for dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.</li>\n <li>Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.</li>\n <li>Will greet patients and answer phones in the outpatient lab when required.</li>\n <li>Is responsible for the daily cleaning of equipment and maintaining neatness throughout the department.</li>\n <li>Records daily temperatures of all refrigerators in the phlebotomy areas.</li>\n <li>Organizes assigned work and accurately completes workload.</li>\n <li>Performs various pre-analytical functions of specimens (collection, labeling, transport, processing), including Custody and Control Drug Screens.</li>\n <li>Assists in keeping supplies at stock level.</li>\n <li>Completes daily log sheets.</li>\n <li>Clerical: answers telephones, takes messages, performs any related data entry, gives reports, reprints reports, makes photocopies, faxes reports, and files orders.</li>\n <li>Performs other related duties as assigned.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Successful completion of an approved phlebotomy training program; OR</li>\n <li>One year or prior acceptable experience in laboratory technique, covering at least fifty percent of the clinical duties, which will be required in the job.</li>\n</ul>",
