Overview
Children’s Mercy Kansas City is currently seeking certified/board eligible general pediatricians to join the Division of Critical Care. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is a 43 bed medical/surgical intensive care unit. The hospitalist will join one of 3 intensivist led teams and be responsible for the direct provision of clinical care to include assessment, diagnosis, as well as implementation and coordination of the care plan.
Night call responsibilities will be supported by 24/7 in house attending intensivist presence. Admitting greater 2,500 patients annually, the Division cares for high acuity and high complexity patients with a variety of diagnosis that include acute respiratory failure, sepsis, acute kidney injury, trauma, neurocritical care diagnoses, solid organ transplantation, and bone marrow transplantation. In addition to the provision of common critical care therapies, the ICU has an active extracorporeal therapy program with access to continuous renal replacement therapy, apheresis, ventricular assist devices, and an ECMO program that commonly exceeds 30 cases annually.
The ideal candidate will have had training or experience in a similar intensive care environment, function well in a high volume/high acuity situations and demonstrate an ability for effective collaboration in our multi-professional team model of care. The hospitalist will also have an opportunity to engage in academic activities such as quality and process improvement initiatives within the ICU, educational and professional development opportunities, and engagement with the many trainees that comprise our clinical and academic environment.
