    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">POSITION SUMMARY</span>:</span></p>\n<p>The position works under the direction of the Animal Control Supervisor and is responsible for enforcing all city ordinances relating to small and large domestic animals.  Meets with public and provides assistance relevant to animal control, animal health, and humane treatment.</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold\"><br></span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">SUPERVISION EXERCISED</span>:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>None</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold\"><br></span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</span>:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Responds to citizen complaints and enforces all animal control ordinances.</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Enforce City ordinances regarding Public Health, safety and zoning.</li>\n<li>Monitor bite cases and rabies cases for proper testing and compliance with laws.</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Perform inspections and provide licensing.</li>\n<li>Appear in court to testify in support of the city’s position regarding violations of city ordinance and applicable state codes.</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Impounds animals to be held in custody.</li>\n<li>Collaborate with City, State and Federal Agencies.</li>\n<li>Uses a bike to patrol city trails</li>\n<li>Proper handling of wildlife</li>\n<li>Perform officer and clerical work including but not limited to computer data entry of case reports and licensing information.</li>\n<li>Prepare and maintain accurate reports documenting investigations, enforcement actions, animal impoundment, shelter activities, adoptions, releases, etc.</li>\n<li>Maintains files, database, and record related to investigations, animal control activities, shelter operations, and enforcement action.</li>\n<li>Participates in on-call and after-hours calls involving animal control and shelter related emergencies.</li>\n<li>Assure humane care and conditions of impounded animals.</li>\n<li>Assist Police Officer’s with special events.</li>\n<li>Euthanize animals when necessary and ensure proper disposal.</li>\n<li>Perform shelter responsibilities including but not limited to facility and animal maintenance.</li>\n<li>Promotes a high level of customer service and good public relations.</li>\n<li>All other duties and responsibilities as required.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</span>:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Education</span> –</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Must have a have school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Experience</span> –</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Must have 1 or more years working experience with animals. Knowledge of animal husbandry or job-related experience is preferred.</li>\n<li>Must have experience with computers and business-related general office practices. </li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">License and Certification</span> –</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Must possess a current Euthanasia Certificate or become certified within 6 months of hire</li>\n<li>Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s License.</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><br></span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES</span>:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Knowledge of – </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Animal control procedures; small and large domestic animal care, knowledge and skill in handling potentially dangerous animals, including vicious or rabid animals.</li>\n<li>Modern office practices and procedures; working knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.</li>\n<li>Microsoft Office Suite and be proficient in Word, and Excel.</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Skilled with – </span>\n<ul>\n<li>Greeting customers, guests and visitors consistently exercise initiative in using time productively and without close supervision. Able to handle confrontational situations and make sound decisions.</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Ability to – </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Provide customer service and answer customer or public inquiries or ability to obtain information from individuals, residents, etc. for follow-up.</li>\n<li>Work independently</li>\n<li>Efficiently navigate Draper City in order to identify and respond to specific locations.</li>\n<li>Communicate effectively with the public under potentially adverse circumstances and to work well with supervisors, co-workers, and employees in other departments.</li>\n<li>Analyze a situation and make sound recommendations and decisions in animal control procedures and City ordinances pertaining to animal control.</li>\n<li>Follow city policy, establish priorities, concentrate on tasks accurately, and accomplish duties in a timely manner.</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Project a professional image when serving the public, responding with a high degree of accuracy and with a high level of courtesy and a strong public service orientation.</li>\n<li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers.</li>\n<li>Maintain rabies immunizations.</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</span></span></p>\n<p>Typical office setting with comfortable climate controls, however regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. (Performance of duties may require working in varied weather conditions such as extreme cold or hot conditions.). Tasks require a variety of physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required for most essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Occasionally lifts or otherwise moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds. This position has exposure to stressful situations. Work is often performed under deadlines and time constraints. May drive a motor vehicle to travel throughout the City and to other locations.
