About the role
The Open Doors Violence Prevention Youth Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and delivering culturally responsive violence prevention, youth development, workforce readiness, and community engagement programming for youth and young adults in South Minneapolis. This position plays a key role in building positive relationships with youth and families while creating safe, supportive, and opportunity centered environments that reduce involvement in violence and increase pathways to education, employment, leadership and long term stability. Duties and Responsibilities
Youth Leadership & Education Support
Support implementation and facilitation of the Youth Advisory Council and other youth leadership initiatives. Facilitate activities and discussions focused on leadership development, justice, civic engagement, community history, social equity, and youth empowerment. Collaborate with schools, parents/guardians, and community partners to support youth educational engagement, attendance, behavior improvement, graduation progress, and future planning.
Youth Engagement and Violence Prevention
· Build trusting, consistent, and supportive relationships with youth and young adults participating in the Open Doors program.
· Coordinate and facilitate evening and weekend programming designed to provide safe alternatives to violence and criminal activity.
· Supervise and support recreational, educational, leadership, and enrichment activities including basketball, fitness activities, social events, cultural programming, workshops, and community building activities.
· Conduct outreach and recruitment activities in schools, community spaces, neighborhoods, and partner organizations to engage youth most impacted by violence and systemic disparities.
· Support violence prevention and de-escalation strategies using trauma informed, culturally responsive, and healing centered practices.
· Assist in creating welcoming, physically and emotionally safe environments for participants, families, staff, and community members.
Case Management and Participant Support
· Conduct participant intake and assist youth in completing assessments including Healthy Lifestyle Assessments and individualized goal plans.
· Provide ongoing case coordination and individualized participant support focused on education, employment, leadership development, emotional wellness, and barrier reduction.
· Identify barriers impacting participant success and connect youth to supportive services and community resources including transportation, food access, mental health supports, work clothing, housing resources, mentoring, and educational supports.
· Maintain regular communication with participants, families, schools, mentors, and service providers to support participant progress and accountability.
· Utilize trauma-informed approaches, including TREM principles, to support youth healing, emotional regulation, communication skills, healthy relationships, and empowerment.
Workforce Development & Career Exposure
· Support youth exploration of career pathways, particularly within STEM, clean energy, construction, technology, solar, drone, and other high-demand industries.
· Coordinate work-based learning experiences, employer engagement opportunities, career exposure activities, certifications, and workforce readiness training.
· Assist participants with resume development, interview preparation, career coaching, job search support, and soft skills development.
· Collaborate with employer and workforce partners including public, private, union, and nonprofit sector organizations to create employment and training opportunities for participants.
· Support participant placement and retention in employment, credentialed training programs, postsecondary education, apprenticeships, or advanced career pathways.
Encourage positive peer relationships, leadership development, and community involvement among participants.
Program Administration & Data Tracking
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential participant records, case notes, attendance, assessments, and outcome documentation within Salesforce and other required systems. Track and report program outcomes including participation levels, hours of service, educational progress, workforce readiness attainment, certifications, employment outcomes, and participant satisfaction. Assist with program reporting, evaluation activities, surveys, data collection, and continuous program improvement efforts. Support program planning, logistics, event coordination, community partnerships, and outreach initiatives. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, professional development opportunities, and organizational initiatives as assigned. Qualifications
Education and Experience
Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in social services, education, human services, workforce development, or related field; 2+ years direct experience working with youth (preferably ages 14–24) in employment, case management, or training programs. Demonstrated ability to design and deliver job-readiness curricula and to create individualized development plans. Strong interpersonal, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills; ability to build rapport with youth from diverse backgrounds. Familiarity with trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices and strength-based approaches. Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, and experience with basic data collection and reporting. Valid driver’s license and ability to drive SCC 15 passenger van. Ability to work onsite at SCC 1pm-9pm 3 days per week.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
· Valid MN Drivers’ License, access to reliable transportation and the ability to meet Sabathani’s driving record requirements.
