Description The Department of English at Davidson College invites applications for a two-year position in British Literature since 1800 at the Visiting Assistant Professor level with a start date of August 1, 2026. Completion or imminent completion of a Ph.D. in British literature is required, and undergraduate teaching experience is preferred. The teaching load is five courses per year. Courses for next year will include “British Literature since 1800,” “Desire: A Reading of British Literature or Global Anglophone Literature,” topics courses in British or Global Anglophone Literature (in any period since 1800), along with two first-year writing courses aligned with the candidate’s area(s) of interest. Applications must be submitted online at https://employment.davidson.edu , and must include a cover letter addressing the teaching of the two literature courses named above; a curriculum vitae ; a one- to two-page statement that outlines how one’s teaching, research, and/or service might contribute to an inclusive learning environment for students from a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences; and (unofficial) graduate transcripts. References will be solicited from candidates later in the process. Applications completed by July 1, 2026, will receive full consideration.
