PAY RANGE:
$55,000 - $65,000 / Annually
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Aquatics provides leadership, management, and oversight for all aquatics programs, services, staff, and facilities at the branch. This position is responsible for the daily operation of aquatic facilities, including program development, staff supervision, pool safety, risk management, facility maintenance, scheduling, and budget administration. The Director of Aquatics ensures the delivery of high-quality, mission-driven aquatic experiences that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility while maintaining the highest standards of safety and customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Aquatics Program Leadership Develops, implements, and evaluates high-quality aquatics programs that align with YMCA mission, goals, and community needs. Oversees swim lessons, lifeguard services, water fitness programs, aquatic events, and specialty aquatic offerings. Conducts ongoing assessments to identify program opportunities and community needs. Establishes program goals, monitors outcomes, and develops improvement plans as needed. Ensures all aquatic programs meet YMCA standards, policies, procedures, and best practices. Maintains effective communication with members, participants, staff, and branch leadership. Staff Leadership & Development Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, develops, and evaluates aquatics staff and volunteers. Creates staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for all aquatic operations and programs. Coordinates certifications, in-service trainings, emergency drills, and ongoing professional development. Provides coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to staff. Builds a positive team culture that reflects YMCA values and promotes staff engagement and retention. Ensures all staff maintain required certifications and training requirements. Fiscal Management Develops and manages aquatics budgets and financial performance. Monitors revenue and expenses to achieve budget goals. Analyzes financial reports and implements corrective actions when necessary. Maintains accurate records, reports, and operational data. Supports membership and program growth initiatives. Facility Operations Oversees the operation, maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of aquatic facilities. Ensures proper pool chemistry, equipment maintenance, and compliance with health and safety regulations. Coordinates inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance schedules. Maintains a safe, welcoming, and well-managed aquatic environment for all participants and guests. Community Engagement Builds strong relationships with schools, community organizations, and local partners. Promotes YMCA aquatic programs and services within the community. Supports branch-wide initiatives, events, and membership engagement efforts. Participates in annual fundraising campaigns and volunteer development activities. Risk Management Participates and attends all required abuse risk management training. Adheres to standards & procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth. Reports any suspicious, inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to the supervisor immediately and complies with mandated YMCA and State of Hawaii abuse reporting requirements. Reinforces staff and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk. Responds seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors, and responds quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures. Complies with the YMCA and State of Hawaii abuse reporting requirements. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:
Education High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Certifications Current Lifeguard Certification required. Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required. Swim Lesson Instructor Certification required. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred. TB Clearance required. Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record required Experience Minimum three to five years of progressively responsible aquatics leadership experience. Experience supervising staff and volunteers. Experience developing and managing aquatic programs. Experience with budgeting and fiscal management preferred. Knowledge of pool operations, risk management, and aquatic safety standards. This position is responsible for the daily operation of aquatic facilities, including program development, staff supervision, pool safety, risk management, facility maintenance, scheduling, and budget administration.
