This is not a remote position. All work with students is performed at our center in Westport, CT What We Do Our fundamental belief at Freudigman & Billings is that children learn best in the context of supportive relationships. We are committed to helping students better understand how they learn and how they can take ownership of that learning. Our team provides educational solutions for adolescents and children through individual assessment, personally tailored learning programs, and one-on-one coaching. Freudigman & Billings uses an efficacious approach to standardized test preparation influenced by the founders’ collective experience working in cognitive science at Yale University. Their method was formulated based on years of working within the public school system to help develop and research effective models for aligning student evaluation with school curriculum. The Freudigman & Billings approach teaches critical thinking, applied reasoning, and problem solving strategies. We help students understand fundamental principles about how the world of information is organized and how they can interact with that information. This process does not involve the rote memorization of vocabulary or inundation of practice questions that many associate with “test prep.” Instead, we focus on teaching students effective strategies for gathering, sequencing, categorizing, and classifying information from text and visual sources. These processes contribute to a student’s ability to reason, solve problems, make inferences, and draw conclusions. Who You Are ​The ideal candidate h as 5+ ye ars of experience in coaching for standardized exams and content areas related to standardized testing in a competitive metropolitan market. Preference will be given to candidates who have had experience working with students with diagnosed learning differences and accommodations on standardized testing. Candidates should be proficient in providing instruction for both verbal and quantitative portions of the SAT and ACT. Why Join Freudigman & Billings? Predictable hours at a single office location : Almost always, our work with students takes place at our 11,000 square foot headquarters in Westport, CT. Students are encouraged to utilize our space not only to see their instructors, but to do homework, hang out with friends, have a snack, get some advice, or even catch a quick nap during finals week. Instructors are provided with a private classroom, a whiteboard, and all materials necessary for a productive session. No unpaid time as you drive from house to house! Teamwork: We work closely together on a daily basis to create and execute individualized learning plans, meaning that our work is far more comprehensive and impactful than a transactional hour of “tutoring.” We are proud of the collegiality that our building and our philosophy inspires, as well as the team of educators we have attracted as a result. Professional development: We care about our staff and teaching you how to teach. Our team of Directors have PhDs, Masters degrees, and other certifications to help you achieve your goals and help you gain mastery of your own instructional techniques. You will learn our pedagogy and become part of this leadership team. Administrative support: We have a full time team that handles scheduling, billing, inventory and printing of materials, and administration and scoring of practice exams. Great benefits: Fourteen days of paid time off, ten paid holidays, and five sick days. Medical, dental, and vision insurance, short and long term disability insurance, paid parental leave, and a 401k plan. What You’ll Do Meet with a cohort of students one on one to teach test prep skills +/-25 hours per week Collaborate with the Director of Test Prep in order to generate and execute specific plans for each student Attend client-specific case review meetings Opportunity to assist with the development of Test Prep curriculum and materials Interact with instructors from different departments, including Educational Therapy, Academic Instruction, and College Advising. Priority given to full time candidates who are willing to work one weekend day. Fractional positions will be considered. Full time schedule is typically 11:30am to 8pm Monday through Thursday, and 11am to 7:30pm on Sundays Requirements Bachelor’s Degree Computer savvy, exceptional communication skills, and attention to detail Ability to thrive and demonstrate confidence in a fast-paced environment Ability to pass a background check Reliable transportation ​
