For over 130 years, St. Joseph Catholic School has partnered with families in forming students of faith, character, intellect, and service. Rooted in the Catholic tradition and committed to excellence in mind, body, and spirit, SJCS seeks a mission-driven educator and faith leader to serve as a High School Theology Teacher & Campus Minister. This position is more than classroom instruction. It is a ministry of accompaniment, discipleship, and leadership within the life of the school. The ideal candidate is a joyful and practicing Catholic who possesses a deep love for Christ, strong instructional practice, authentic relational leadership, and a desire to help young people encounter truth, beauty, goodness, and the living presence of God. The selected candidate will help foster a vibrant Catholic culture through theology instruction, retreat leadership, liturgical life, student formation, and spiritual engagement across campus. Job Summary The High School Theology Teacher & Campus Minister serves as a spiritual and instructional leader within the Upper School community. This individual teaches Theology courses while helping animate the Catholic identity and spiritual life of the school through retreats, prayer experiences, liturgies, discipleship opportunities, service formation, and student leadership development. The position works collaboratively with administration, faculty, parish leadership, and student leaders to ensure that faith is not simply taught, but lived throughout the school community. Ministerial Character Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin are canonically obedient to the Bishop and assist him in fulfilling his ministry and canonical obligations. Pastors, presidents, and principals serve as leaders of the schools to make Christ's mission present and enduring in the schools. In order to fulfill Christ's mission, the school leaders employ suitable, chosen collaborators, sharing with them Christ's mission and entrusting to them various responsibilities. Positions employed in this School help extend the ministry of the School leaders in particular ways as outlined in the job description. The employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the School leaders in the performance of their ministry and, therefore, engages in ministry for the Church. Essential Duties Teach High School Theology courses in alignment with diocesan standards and Catholic Church teaching Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese Maintain an annual fundraising calendar and scheduling of visits with benefactors Coordinates and manages two major fundraising events per year Coordinate and manage the school’s annual fund program. Manages and applies for grants Collaborates effectively with the principal, school associations, committee chairs and volunteers Ensures effective work practices in financial accounting and reconciliation, database management, gift recording, donor acknowledgement, and stewardship Collaborate with marketing for designing and provisioning marketing pieces relevant to development activities Maintain records on current and prospective donors Ensures that practices are in compliance with school, Diocesan, city, county and state regulations Communicates effectively with the faculty and staff and keeps them informed of upcoming development activities Meet staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese/local administration Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters Attends and participates as needed in faculty meetings as well as professional and community organizations Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church Knowledge of a broad range of development activities Knowledge of development software Able to communicate effectively both in written and verbal form Able to work well with others in the school community Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format Skill in job appropriate technology Skill in critical thinking and planning Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree Experience: Development or related field preferred Certifications and Training: Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 60 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment. Working Conditions Required to work some nights and weekends Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress Required to work in standard school and office conditions Employee Certification All employees must adhere to the Catholic Schools Standards of Conduct, the Diocese of Austin EIM policies, and the social, ethical, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as interpreted by the Bishop of Austin.
