The School of Education seeks to recruit individuals who enthusiastically support the University’s strong commitment to the academic success of all of our students and who embrace our Mission, Vision, and Core Values:

Vision: To prepare educators, leaders, and Counselors as agents of social change who transform the lives of individuals and communities they serve.

The School of Education is comprised of five (5) academic departments including Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, Special Education, and Counseling.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Teacher Residency Coordinator supports our multi-district co-teacher apprenticeship programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels in partnership with the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED). This position serves as a mentor, instructional coach, and liaison for co-teachers, mentor teachers, and school administrators across multiple New Mexico school districts, including Pojoaque, Santa Fe, Bernalillo, and Las Vegas Public Schools.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a professional, approachable, and respectful representative of the program, modeling courtesy and collaboration in all interactions.
Conduct monthly live coaching and check-ins with co-teaching teams via Zoom, GoReact, and other virtual platforms.
Facilitate both formal and informal discussions to assess co-teaching progress, identify areas for growth, and design quarterly professional development sessions tailored to identified needs.
Clearly communicate program requirements, performance expectations, and evaluation criteria to co-teachers, mentors, and school administrators throughout each semester.
Provide timely, constructive, and actionable feedback – both verbal and written – to support the professional growth of co-teaching residents during scheduled meetings and development sessions.
Collaborate with mentor teachers, supervisors, and administrators to coordinate mid-term and final evaluation conferences, ensuring that student teacher progress is closely monitored and documented.
Participate in statewide meetings, i.e. community of practice meetings, deans & directors, etc. Residency partnerships are expected to have broad participation, as the initiative is a priority for supporting the transformation of educator pathways into residencies. Occasional exceptions to attendance expectations should be approved by the PED Residency Coordinator.
Maintain accurate records and databases.
Coordinate with partner school districts for the annual placement of co-teachers.
Contribute to the development of program policies, procedures, and resources.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support the success of the teacher residency program.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements:
Master’s degree in Education or a related teaching field from an accredited institution.
A minimum of five years of K–12 teaching experience with eligibility to obtain or currently holding a New Mexico Level II Teaching License.
Experience in program evaluation or assessment within an academic or educational setting.
Demonstrated experience mentoring or coaching teachers, preferably within the state of New Mexico.
Proven ability to collaborate and coordinate effectively with diverse stakeholder groups, including school districts, administrators, and educational partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Education or a related teaching field from an accredited institution.
At least three years of experience in educational administration, program coordination, or leadership, preferably within systems aligned with the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED).
Demonstrated experience working with Tribal, Pueblo, and rural communities.
Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish or other relevant languages).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency in teaching, mentoring, and collaborating with colleagues and students using electronic and digital platforms.
Experience with Brightspace or other Learning Management Systems (LMS).
Familiarity with student advisement and information systems such as Banner Degree Audit or equivalent platforms.
Proficiency with VIA Watermark or similar assessment/accreditation systems, or a willingness to complete training as needed.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, actionable feedback.
Ability to engage in critical, constructive conversations to support teacher development and improvement.
Recognized as a highly effective educator and/or classroom teacher with a strong professional reputation.
Demonstrated adaptability to evolving processes, procedures, and technologies.
Holds a valid New Mexico Level II or III Teaching License in an appropriate field.
Competence in using technology to perform job-related duties, including virtual meetings, data management, and evaluation tasks.
Willingness and ability to travel regularly to partner schools and districts.
Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.
Skilled in using the NMTEACH Rubric to conduct formal classroom observations and teacher evaluations.
Physical Demands:
Repetitive hand motion and prolonged use of computer.
Sitting for extended periods of time.
No or very limited physical effort required.
Working Environment:
Work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment or remote location.
Work with frequent interruptions.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
