(AIS)</span> is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities requiring certification of compliance with environmental regulations as well as collecting data for use by Federal, State, Municipal, and other government agencies along the US coastline. AIS is looking for a Fisheries Biologist to support an ongoing acoustic trawl survey.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">Primary Function:</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">AIS is looking for a fisheries biologist to support an ongoing acoustic trawl survey within the Fishery Resource Analysis &amp; Monitoring Division of NOAA. This position requires an outgoing individual capable of leading wet-lab operation throughout all stages of survey operation.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">Duties/Responsibilities:</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">Survey Preparation and Participation:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Complete training to access NWFSC server and prepare for at-sea research deployment.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Familiarize with the software and methods for troubleshooting peripheral devices under the guidance of FEAT Newport staff.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Set up the wet lab and assist with deploying equipment on research vessels.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Deploy on research vessels for extended periods, sometimes working shifts of up to 12 hours for approximately 35-70 days per year.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Collect and analyze samples, documenting all efforts through detailed at-sea notes and progress reports.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Update and maintain databases, ensuring accurate data tracking.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Organize, inventory, and maintain necessary supplies pre-survey and during deployment.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Complete post-survey tasks, including analyzing stomach contents, preserving samples, and inventorying gear.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Safely operate and drive vehicles, including trucks, and ensure proper handling while backing up and maneuvering in various field settings.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Compensation:</span> Candidates will be paid an hourly rate to be negotiated, and total compensation will vary depending on candidates’ depth of experience. font-size: 12pt\">A solid foundation in the scientific method and basic statistical analysis, with 20+ undergraduate-level credits in science-based courses.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">At least 90 days of at-sea field experience.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Proficiency in using dichotomous keys to identify fish and invertebrates.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as troubleshooting software/hardware issues.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Basic soldering skills and the ability to prepare equipment for wet environments.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Completion of an at-sea safety course.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Must be able to work independently and take initiative in moving projects forward.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Must be able to handle unexpected situations by relying on training, protocols, and guides to work through challenges.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Must be able to manage tasks efficiently, establishing workflows and timelines.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Must be able to demonstrate strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to process improvement.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Extensive at-sea field experience with a focus on determining catch composition and biological sample collection.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">A completed background check through NOAA or another federal agency within the past four years.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">In-depth knowledge of Northeast Pacific fishes and experience collecting and analyzing stomach contents.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Experience operating a small boat trailer.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Familiarity with electronics, including repair and maintenance of systems in wet environments.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt\">Experience in managing a variety of roles, including but not limited to laboratory, field, and paperwork, while to new tasks and responsibilities.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino;
