    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p><strong>JOB TITLE: Emergency Room Technician</strong></p>\n<p><strong>CC/Department: 7010/Emergency Services</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Reports to: Nurse Manager</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>JOB SUMMARY:</strong></p>\n<p>The Emergency Department Technician is a member of the health care team who assists in the delivery of total patient care, under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p><strong>SECTION V: POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>JOB TITLE: Emergency Room Technician</strong></p>\n<p><strong>CC/Department: 7010/Emergency Services</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>JOB SUMMARY:</strong></p>\n<p>The Emergency Department Technician is a member of the health care team who assists in the delivery of total patient care, under the direction of a Registered Nurse and Physician.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)</strong></p>\n<p>1</p>\n<p>Relates to patients in a courteous and helping manner appropriate to a professional setting.  Maintains a positive customer service attitude.  </p>\n<p>2</p>\n<p>Prepares/assists patients for examination and treatment</p>\n<li>Provides clean gown and blanket as needed</li>\n<li>Positions patients appropriately for procedures.</li>\n<li>Assembles supplies and equipment needed for care and treatment of patients.  </li>\n<li>Maintains treatment room in a clean and neat manner.  </li>\n<li>Removes and deposits soiled linen/trash in designated containers.  </li>\n<li>Maintains privacy and respects the dignity of each patient.</li>\n<li>Follows universal precautions for infection control.</li>\n<li>Reports significant observations to nursing and/or physician staff.  </li>\n<p>3</p>\n<p>Performs and/or assists in the performance of the following patient related tasks and interventions under the order and supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician:</p>\n<li>Application of behavioral restraints (with valid physician order).</li>\n<li>Application of cardiac monitor, NIBP, and O2.</li>\n<li>Application of heat and cold. </li>\n<li>Application of orthopedic devices and software goods including; finger splints, wrist splints, ace bandages, knee immobilizes, posterior plaster splints, etc. </li>\n<li>Applications of simple dressings including, tube gauze and pressure dressings.</li>\n<li>Assists with pelvic examinations (female Emergency Technicians only).</li>\n<li>Assists with suturing.</li>\n<li>Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.</li>\n<li>Charts procedures performed, e.g., application of dressings and splints, vital signs, etc.</li>\n<li>Crutch fitting, teaching of crutch walking.  </li>\n<li>Electrocardiograms</li>\n<li>Measures and charts Intake and Output.</li>\n<li>Orthopedic skills to include application of ace wraps, splints, and immobilizers.</li>\n<li>Skin, hair, and oral care.</li>\n<li>Specimen collection.</li>\n<li>Suctioning (oral).</li>\n<li>Transfers and Transports patients.</li>\n<li>Vital Signs</li>\n<li>Wound preparation.  </li>\n<p>4</p>\n<p>Orders, organizes and maintains supplies from Central Service and Store Room within established guidelines and limits:</p>\n<li>Maintains appropriate stock levels of department supplies.</li>\n<li>Is conscious of need for cost containment.</li>\n<li>Orders special orthopedic supplies and non-stocked items as needed.</li>\n<li>Stocks treatment areas with appropriate level of supplies and clean linen.</li>\n<li>Delivers instruments, trays and equipment to Central Service for exchange or reprocessing.</li>\n<li>Ensures proper storage and operation of department equipment.</li>\n<li>Facilitates repair of broken/damaged equipment.</li>\n<li>Completes daily reconciliation of supply system.</li>\n<p>5</p>\n<p>Completes all documentation as required.</p>\n<p>6</p>\n<p>Maintains EMT/CNA certification, BLS, DAB, and other related training.  </p>\n<p>7</p>\n<p>Assists with orientation of new employees.  </p>\n<p>8</p>\n<p>Participates in the clinical observation visits of the EMT students.</p>\n<p>8</p>\n<p>Maintains confidentiality of all patient and hospital related communications and documentation. </p>\n<p>10</p>\n<p>Fosters a cooperative effort in meeting the goals of the team and sharing the workload.  </p>\n<p>11</p>\n<p>Consistently demonstrates caring and compassion through behaviors and interactions in performance of all duties, recognizing the inherent worth and dignity of patients, families, other staff and physicians.  </p>\n<p>12</p>\n<p>Adheres to the departmental and medical center policies on scheduling, overtime, sick time & time off.</p>\n<p>13</p>\n<p>Arrives punctually, takes appropriate time for breaks and uses sick time appropriately.</p>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS/JOB REQUIREMENTS:</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>EXPERIENCE:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>DAB; 12 lead EKG; and orthopedic procedure experience preferred.  </li>\n <li>2 years current ER Tech experience preferred</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Current certification as an EMT1 preferred.</li>\n <li>CNA certification preferred.</li>\n <li>Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Proficient in computerized documentation systems.  </li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>",
