About the Role The Onsite Customer Growth team develops features that help Attentive’s customers grow through personalized experiences built directly on their websites. We focus on increasing list growth through investments in creative capabilities, experimentation, and AI-driven optimization. Our team builds the systems and product experiences that power onsite engagement for millions of users and help brands convert more visitors into subscribers and customers. We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help lead the design and development of the products and platform capabilities behind Attentive’s onsite growth experiences. This role can be oriented toward backend or full-stack engineering, depending on your strengths, but in either case you’ll be expected to own meaningful technical decisions, build scalable systems, and collaborate closely with product, design, data, and AI partners to deliver high-impact customer outcomes. This hybrid role is based in our New York office, with in-office collaboration Tuesday through Thursday each week. What You’ll Accomplish Design, build, and evolve scalable backend services, APIs, and user-facing product capabilities that power Attentive’s onsite growth products. Lead technical design for new features and platform improvements, making thoughtful tradeoffs around reliability, performance, maintainability, and speed of execution. Partner closely with product, design, AI, and data teams to develop intelligent, data-driven capabilities that improve performance and user experience for customers and end users. Anticipate future product and platform needs, and proactively design solutions that support team growth, product expansion, and increasing scale. Improve system observability, resiliency, and performance to ensure our onsite experiences remain fast, reliable, and effective at scale. Serve as a technical leader on the team by driving design discussions, raising the engineering bar in code reviews, and mentoring other engineers. Contribute to a strong engineering culture through high-quality implementation, pragmatic architecture, and a focus on measurable customer impact. Your Expertise 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally with strong experience building backend systems, product platforms, or customer-facing applications at scale. Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, or TypeScript Experience designing and operating distributed systems, APIs, and microservices, with a solid understanding of reliability, scalability, and performance. For backend candidates: deep experience building service-oriented systems and data-intensive applications. For full-stack candidates: strong backend fundamentals plus experience building high-quality frontend applications and collaborating closely on end-user experience. Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern developer tooling, such as AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, relational databases, caching systems, queues, or streaming platforms. Ability to translate business goals and product ideas into clear technical plans and execute effectively across functions. A track record of writing clean, maintainable, well-tested code and holding a high bar for production quality. Curiosity, strong collaboration skills, and a passion for building products that drive meaningful customer growth. What We Use Our backend is Java / Kotlin / Spring Boot microservices, built with Gradle, coupled with things like DynamoDB, Aurora, AirFlow, Postgres, and Redis, hosted via AWS Our infrastructure runs primarily in Kubernetes hosted in AWS’s EKS, using tooling like Istio, Datadog, Terraform, CloudFlare, and Helm Our frontend is built with React and TypeScript, and uses best practices like GraphQL, Storybook, Radix UI, Vite, esbuild, and Playwright Our automation is driven by custom and open source machine learning models, industry-leading LLMs, lots of data and tech like Python, Metaflow, HuggingFace, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Pandas You'll get competitive perks and benefits , from health & wellness to equity, to help you bring your best self to work.
