Description
The Early Care and Education program in the School of Engineering Technologies and Professional Studies invites applications for an Instructor/Assistant Professor of Early Care and Education position. The Early Care and Education program at Greenville Technical College is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and employs full-time and part-time faculty members. It offers approximately 200 students the option of an associate’s degree in Applied Science, a Child Care Assistant certificate, a Child Care Management certificate, an Early Childhood Development certificate, or an Early Childhood Special Education certificate. Courses are offered in both traditional and online formats. The mission of the Early Care and Education program is to educate and prepare those who work with young children in a diverse and inclusive learning environment. In addition to our faculty, our strength lies in our NAEYC accredited on-campus lab school where students apply their classroom knowledge to the children attending the Child Development Center. The Early Childhood Department at GTC is accredited by the National Association of Education of Young Children and has a high quality Child Care Lab School for student training. These components make the GTC ECD programs high quality and well sought for training and education in the child care field. Child care directors utilize the program by sending new employees for training (ECD 101) and to complete coursework to gain knowledge in teaching and nurturing children from birth through age 5. The ECD programs provide relevant, hands-on, and practical application as a portion of the education students receive, requiring instructors to not just lecture on child development but to provide real, hands-on experiences in the classroom and lab settings to prepare students for real-world experiences. In this challenging role, you will support the Early Childhood Education department at Greenville Technical College. Duties may include any of the following: This position requires an extensive knowledge of all facets of Early Childhood Development and the skill and ability to convey this knowledge to students and faculty. Knowledge of NAEYC accreditation, student advising, and the current job market. Knowledge should be obtained from a combination of education and experience in the field. Prior community college teaching experience is preferred. The position is directly supervised by the Department Head of Early Care and Education. Annual performance appraisals are completed by the supervisor, student evaluations are performed on a semester basis. A faculty manual and development opportunities are provided. Other full-time faculty will mentor this position. Minimal supervision will be provided as employee works independently as assigned. The person in this position is expected to work independently, maintain office hours, perform administrative tasks as related to this position, provide academic advising to students, develop/prepare/instruct courses with minimal supervision, and works as a member of the department team. Travel to satellite campuses as required.
