Description

POSITION TITLE : Community Based Prevention Specialist REPORTS TO: Community Impact Director FLSA : Exempt FUNCTION : The Community Based Prevention Specialist provides education about resources and services to at-risk populations throughout the community. This position provides universal delivery of prevention topics to all facets of the community, promotes CFS, Corp. and its subsidiaries. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree or greater in social or behavioral science, counseling, or a closely related field is preferred. One year experience where the primary responsibility was to provide counseling services to at risk populations is preferred. Additional related education or work experience that includes directly providing counseling or training services may be substituted on an equivalent time basis. Must meet all requirements for pre-employment as required by the CFS, Corp. and state regulations and licensure requirements. COMPETENCIES : Problem solving, decision making, communication proficiency, cultural competence, time management, stress management composure, flexibility. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current valid driver’s license from state of residence with a satisfactory driving record as defined by CFS, Corp. vehicle policy and/or liability insurance carrier. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, sit, stand, and walk for periods of time. Must be able to lift from the floor to waist up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally. VISUAL AND COGNITIVE DEMANDS: Must have excellent communication skills. Must be able to generate written reports or summaries using prescribed format. Must be able to give and receive verbal and written instructions. Must have fine vision, sustained vision, and peripheral vision. Must possess sufficient eye/hand coordination to operate office equipment including, but not limited to phone, computer, calculator, or copier, if applicable. WORK LOCATION AND ENVIRONMENT: School, and office settings with varying degrees of background noise. Lighting and ventilation as found in a typical home, school, or office setting. The buildings, grounds and vehicles are tobacco free. The possibility of exposure to blood borne pathogens exists if universal precautions are not followed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The successful applicant should be able to perform ALL the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements. Ensures that prevention curriculum is provided to target populations. Curriculum could include drug/alcohol prevention, violence prevention, drop-out prevention, harm reduction, as well as other identified programs. Provides skills that support problem solving. Assists in providing education to the community about improving social and communication skills. Organize awareness events about all CFS, Corp. programs and their deliverables. Participate in local community events to raise awareness about CFS, Corp. services. Facilitate community trainings with local organizations and community partners. Create and foster relationships with community partners and stakeholders. Actively seek out donation dollars from local organizations and community partners. Maintains all data, documents, and reports as required by the Directors, corporate management, and funders. Maintains personal professional credentials and requirements. Provides regular presentations to community organizations and partners on the purpose, scope of work, and outcomes of the organizations service delivery. Assists with organizational and community needs assessments. SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work cooperatively with staff, parents, and social service agency personnel. Ability and desire to work effectively and maintain supportive relationships with at-risk populations. Effective active listening skills and positive method of behavior management. Well-developed organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrates understanding of CFS, Corp. mission, vision, core values, and strategic plan. Handles information in a confidential manner. Maintains absolute security and confidentiality of all client records. Understands and utilizes established policies and procedures in making decisions. Dependable, accepts responsibility for attendance and punctuality. Effectively utilizes time. Performs work according to standards of conduct, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Flexible, adjusts work to accommodate changes in priorities and workload. Attends and participates in all required new hire, annual, and other assigned training and attends meetings as assigned. Attends scheduled staff meetings, group meetings, and other staff and group activities essential for effective program and service delivery, and to promote communications and the proper flow of relevant information. Cooperates and is willing to assist others and accepts direction from supervisor. Maintains professional and respectful relations with others. Presents a neat, clean, and professional appearance. Sets a good example for others by own self-discipline and behavior. Maintains professional and respectful relations with others. Does not engage in activities other than official business during working hours. Understands and utilizes established agency policies and procedures in making decisions but uses sound independent judgment in meeting the responsibilities and performing the duties of the position. Performs other work as required or assigned. Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
