About the Work Unit:
VUSN supports the development of innovative academic educational programs within the school which align strategically with other Vanderbilt University initiatives to address national priorities to promote, protect, educate students and play a vital role in developing clinicians who will provide access to health care for people everywhere.
Duties and Responsibilities
Simulation Setup, Execution and Takedown
Prepares for, operates and breaks down simulations
o Reviews Simulation Center calendar of events and prepares accordingly.
o Ensure proper rooms, equipment (simulators, task trainers, etc.), supplies, and moulage are
prepared and ready on time for simulations, skills and OSCEs.
o Tests simulation and OSCE equipment and supplies to ensure proper functioning.
o Works with VUIT staff to ensure SimCapture is ready and functions and records (when
applicable).
o Operates sessions.
o Creates and maintains a safe lab environment, and functions with an awareness of safety at all
times.
o Assure proper utilization of equipment, supplies, services and materials in a cost-effective
manner.
o Resets the room for the next simulation in a timely manner.
Programs and operates patient simulators, audio/visual systems, and software.
o Operates and programs patient simulators, audio/visual equipment and computer software for
simulations.
o Acts as the voice for mannequins and others in the simulation using a script.
o Troubleshoots technical issues and assists faculty during simulations.
Equipment & Technology Management
Receives regular training on the use and upkeep of all technology in the Simulation Center.
Oversees equipment maintenance and repair schedules with the proper vendor in collaboration with the Program Manager, ensuring all resources are optional.
In collaboration with the Program Manager, maintains warranty documentation and tracks equipment lifespan.
Supply Management
Selects appropriate supplies for each simulation, skills or OSCE and disposes of them properly after the experience.
Tracks and optimizes supply utilization, ensuring proper inventory levels in collaboration with the Program Manager.
Stocks and inventories supplies and equipment as shipments arrive.
Tours & Demonstrations
Conducts lab tours and demonstrations for faculty, students, and external visitors.
Additional Responsibilities
Performs additional duties as necessary.
Supervisory Relationships
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Certifications
Associate's Degree is required .
Bachelor's Degree is preferred .
Certification as a Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) preferred .
Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience and Skills
Two years of experience in a related field.
Experience with biomedical technology and biomedical equipment preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and human physiology preferred.
Proficiency utilizing computer software (Microsoft Office, Adobe), laptop computers and tablets is required.

"ShortDescriptionStr": "The Simulation Operations Technician is a member of the Simulation Center for staff at the Vanderbilt School of Nursing (VUSN) and provides essential support for healthcare simulation operations for the Master of Nursing (MN), Post-Master's Certificate, and Master of Science in Nursing students. Primary responsibilities include simulation and skills lab set up, programming, moulage, and breakdown, maintaining supplies and equipment providing technical and audio/visual support for simulation operations, and aiding faculty and students during requested skills and simulation sessions. Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean for Simulation and Experiential Learning, the Simulation Operations Technician works collaboratively with faculty, staff and students to ensure successful learning experience. This is a temporary, fully in-person position working 30 hours per week.",
