Description Under minimal supervision, the Assistant Academic Research Scientist performs a wide range of highly technical and complex tasks necessary to advance basic and/or translational research programs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties will include but are not limited to experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation and communication of results of basic and/or translational research. Will be required to reviews literature and apply advanced knowledge, skills, and input necessary for protocol development. May assist in grant and other funding applications, as necessary and appropriate. Performs other responsibilities as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: PhD or MD OR Master's degree and five years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab. Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree is not considered eligible work experience for this job classification. Laboratory experience will be based on area of assignment. ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS: The Ling Lab in the Department of Biology at Emory University is looking for a research scientist or postdoctoral fellow to study how transcription machinery dynamically searches for targets, binds chromatin, and regulates gene expression in living cells. The candidate will receive training in yeast genetics, molecular biology, live-cell single-molecule microscopy, and quantitative image analysis. Work may include building and validating yeast strains, performing imaging experiments, analyzing microscopy data, working closely with the PI, graduate students, and other lab members, and contributing to day-to-day lab organization and operations. This position is well suited for someone interested in gene regulation, chromatin biology, quantitative cell biology, biophysics, or advanced microscopy. Meaningful contributions to projects may lead to authorship on publications. A two-year commitment is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate should hold a doctoral degree in biology or a related field. Good communication skills, attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are important. Prior experience with yeast genetics, fluorescence microscopy, image analysis, or computational analysis is a plus. Experience with R, Python, and MATLAB is strongly preferred. Applicants applying with a M.D. or equivalent degree must be eligible for a Georgia medical license to meet the minimum qualifications. NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion.
