    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<p><strong>ABOUT OUR DISTRICT:</strong></p><p>The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all - including students who fall behind or have been considered \"hard to serve\" for a host of reasons. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 19,000+ students Pre-K-12 of whom 77% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 18% are served by the Office of Special Education and 78% are students of color.</p><p>We offer 120 different athletic teams for students in grades 7-12. Our coaching staff consists of certified, dedicated people who enjoy working with our student athletes. They are individuals who work very hard and care a great deal about the individuals for which they are responsible. In grades 7-8 we offer a comprehensive modified program, which serve as a \"training ground\" for skill development and participation. Winning is NOT emphasized and large numbers on teams are encouraged for maximum participation. We stress discipline, enjoyment or play, competition, and dedication to the value that hard work will produce rewards. The modified program prepares our young student athletes for the higher level of high school competition.</p><p>To participate at the high school level, a higher refinement of skill is necessary and competition is viewed at a higher level of comprehension. Our high school freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity teams strive for success and practice to produce as efficient a team and individual effort as possible. At the high school level, we stress the development of academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship.</p><p><strong>POSITION BEING HIRED:</strong></p><p>Percussion-Battery Instructor</p><p><br>POSITION PURPOSE Under the supervision of the Director, the Battery/Drumline Instructor is&nbsp;<br>responsible for planning and instruction of the marching band’s percussion students. This is&nbsp;<br>considered an extracurricular contract.<br>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include:<br>1. Assist in the instructional delivery of the battery section of the band.<br>2. Instruct students on their instrument, at their level, and ensures each student’s progress by&nbsp;<br>providing as much individualization as possible (including drum line warm-ups, marching&nbsp;<br>techniques and stick work).<br>3. Teach cadences for marching/playing at parades and other community events.<br>4. Engage students to practice, play and perform introduced materials.<br>5. Assist in preparing the drumline for appropriate public performances in keeping with the&nbsp;<br>expectations of the Director.<br>6. Attend all rehearsals, sectionals and performances actively participating in assisting&nbsp;<br>students in sectionals and whole group rehearsals.<br>7. Work with the Director during auditions and provide input into placement of students on&nbsp;<br>instruments of the drumline.<br>8. Assist in teaching drill for the show and checking the positioning of the percussion in each&nbsp;<br>musical selection.<br>9. Choreograph sticking and drum line movement to match the drill (visuals).<br>10. Assist Director in maintaining inventories of percussion supplies, materials, and&nbsp;<br>equipment; adjust and maintain percussion instruments ensuring timely availability for&nbsp;<br>student use.<br>11. Monitor and control student behavior according to established procedures and share any&nbsp;<br>concerns, etc. with the Director.</p><p><strong>SALARY:&nbsp;</strong></p><p>Salary per <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Unit 1 contract</a>, <i>prorated per length of season.</i></p>",
