Together, we strive toward a future without limits for our students, alumni, and community About the Team Our six elementary schools   in Washington, DC, serve grades 1st - 4th. Our teachers, leaders, and student support teams work together to provide instruction that is rigorous, culturally responsive, and grounded in strong relationships with students and families. We believe classrooms should be academically challenging, joyful, and identity-affirming, and we support teachers through coaching, collaborative planning structures, and dedicated development time. About the Role Restorative Practices Teachers will: Model the mindsets above, in both words and actions Build authentic relationships with students, families and staff and model relationship building skills Respond to student behavior with emotional constancy and empathy Use restorative practices to help students solve problems and/or adjust behaviors so that they can return to their learning as soon as possible  Collaborate on the strategic planning and execution of PBIS initiatives across school-wide, grade-level, and individual tiers Location and Type of Work Fully In-Person (5 days per week onsite) This is an in-person, school-based instructional role located at a KIPP DC campus in Washington, DC. KIPP DC schools serve students and families in person, and this position requires daily on-site presence to deliver instruction, provide student support, collaborate with teammates, and engage with families. Culture Interventionist work hours are typically 7:30 am to 5:00 pm two days per week, and 7:30 am to 4:00 pm three days per week, to allow for duties, collaboration, and professional development. Key Responsibilities Believe deeply in the mission and values of KIPP DC, subscribe to KIPP DC's Vision for Teaching Excellence, and commit to advancing an inclusive work environment Display an incredible work ethic and a passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture Commit/contribute to constant professional growth and development Have experience leading strong Tier 1 systems and procedures, as well as strong relationships with students Understand a multi-tiered system of supports and develop interventions and plans aligned with school systems Coordinate with school leaders and teachers to implement the tier 1 PBIS systems in classrooms and common spaces Coordinate with PBIS coordinator to implement school-wide incentives and celebrations  Respond to student behavior proactively or through Deanslist referrals Communicate the follow-up from behaviors with families, teachers and the leadership team Document behavioral follow-up and interventions in Deanslist Support the leadership team in gathering incident reports and statements from teachers and students, log information about incidents, and create paperwork Support the leadership team in scheduling and holding reentry meetings and create/log/share reentry plans after a student has had a significant discipline incident Collaborate with teachers, leaders and families in writing and implementing tier 2 and tier 3 plans  Push in to support classrooms of concern to coach for behavior management, transitions, implementation of plans, etc. Support in crisis management as a member of the crisis support team Conduct inquiries and investigations regarding family, student and teacher concerns of bullying Document KIPP DC bullying investigation process Teach advisory lessons and/or hold community circles with students.   Cover for classes when needed While students receive instruction from 8:00 am-4:00 pm, KIPP DC teachers are on duty in school Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm two times a week, and 7:30 am to 4:35 pm three times a week. Perform morning, lunch, and afternoon duties as assigned Pass a FBI criminal background check, as required by law Additional responsibilities may arise during the school year. This could include but not limited to: attending staff and student field trips, open houses, parent-teacher conferences, home visits, and other events involving parents and students as needed. We will communicate them to all employees with as much notice and flexibility as possible. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree  Commitment to working with students from communities with limited access to high-quality educational opportunities  At least one year of teaching experience in a PreK3–12th grade school OR an education degree that included student teaching / residency with full-classroom responsibility  “Teaching experience” here refers to serving as the teacher of record / lead instructor responsible for instruction and progress of an assigned class or section. It does not include paraprofessional work, substitute-only experience, internships without lead teaching responsibility, or daycare-only experience. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in the relevant content area  Experience leading whole school Restorative, PBIS, or culture initiatives Experience teaching in an urban K–12 public school setting  Strong communication skills with families and caregivers, including culturally responsive partnership Strong collaboration habits with teammates (planning, data analysis, shared ownership for student growth) Physical Requirements Must be able to remain in a classroom environment for extended periods to deliver instruction. Must be able to monitor students throughout the school building, including transitions, lunch, and recess. Growth & Development: Teachers at KIPP DC are continuous learners and seek out feedback and development opportunities, while also being self reflective about their own practice. Teachers apply flexibility and a problem-solving approach to persist through challenges. Teachers have a deep and growing understanding of their own identity, mindsets, and biases and use this insight to inform their teaching and professional development. Benefits & Compensation KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package: The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $65,500-$98,880 . Currently, staff in this role have up to 7 sick days and 3 personal days, paid holidays, and paid breaks throughout the school year.
