Our mission is to offer a safe, reliable, and enjoyable ferry experience for passengers transiting the Long Island Sound barrier.</p><p>The Bridgeport Port Jefferson Ferry is seeking highly qualified Chief Engineers (Unlimited HP). &nbsp;Duties and responsibilities are outlined below. &nbsp;</p><p><strong>Chief Engineer</strong></p><p><strong>Reports to:</strong></p><ul><li>The Chief Engineer directly reports to the Port Engineer.</li></ul><p><strong>Supervises:</strong></p><ul><li>The Chief Engineer supervises the Oilers, Engineers, and all mechanical equipment onboard the Ferry.</li></ul><p><strong>Description of Duties:</strong></p><ul><li>The Chief Engineer is a very experienced crewmember onboard managing the Ferry's Engineering Department.&nbsp;</li></ul><p>Oversees the condition and operability&nbsp;of all mechanical equipment onboard the Ferry&nbsp;including the following: main engines, propulsion equipment, auxiliary machinery, all electrical, pneumatic equipment,&nbsp;hydraulic machinery, steering machinery, and all associated components, deck machinery, valves, pipes,&nbsp;and watertight integrity of the ferry.</p><p>Maintains&nbsp;compliance with all Quality, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems as outlined in&nbsp;the McAllister Operations Manual.</p><ul><li>Supervises&nbsp;the procurement, loading&nbsp;of all potable water, ballast water, fuel oil, and lube oil.&nbsp; The Chief Engineer ensures all liquids&nbsp;are of proper quality and quantity&nbsp;making the proper log entries in&nbsp;the Fuel Transfer Certificate.<br>&nbsp;</li><li>Repairs all machinery and equipment onboard the vessel within his capacity and completes the daily engine log each day.<br>&nbsp;</li><li>Projects a positive company image and maintains professional, amicable relationships with customers, pilots, terminal personnel and the public at all times.</li></ul><p><strong>Minimum Requirements:</strong></p><ul><li>High school diploma or equivalent.</li><li>Current U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential</li><li>Must possess a Chief Engineering License (Unlimited HP)</li><li>Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).</li><li>Must live within reasonable&nbsp;commuting distance of Port Jefferson, NY.&nbsp;</li><li>Pass pre-employment drug test.</li><li>Pass pre-employment physical</li></ul><p><strong>Physical Requirements:</strong></p><p>The physical evaluation guidelines for employment onboard Bridgeport Port Jefferson vessels are based on the United States Coast Guard NAVIC 2-98 “Physical Evaluation guidelines for Merchant Mariner’s Credentials”.</p><p>You must have the physical ability to operate heavy machinery. Repair work may involve assignments to work beneath machines and in close quarters.
