POSITION SUMMARY The Simulation Coordinator is a full-time, 12 month assistant professor in residence position responsible for leadership, strategic oversight, and management of low-fidelity to high-fidelity clinical simulation learning activities for students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS The qualifications for the Simulation Coordinator are: Is eligible for or holds a license as a registered nurse in the state of Illinois, at least two years of experience in clinical nursing practice, additional simulation experience, and a minimum of an earned master’s degree with a major in nursing. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Two years of prior experience teaching with simulation (preferred). Experience in teaching nursing, curriculum assessment and evaluation, budget management, and leadership experience. Experience with simulation technology, developing simulation scenarios, and maintaining simulation equipment. Earned doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, EdD, or related field) preferred. Candidates actively progressing towards completion of a doctoral degree will also be considered. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Advanced computer skills with the use of simulation equipment and technology. Strong and empathetic communication and emotional intelligence. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Accurate record-keeping skills. Demonstrates a positive attitude, ability, and hopefulness about learning with conviction to transform weaknesses into opportunities. Exhibits a student-centered philosophy. Ability to provide practice-based nursing education and support students from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of educational principles, teaching strategies, and instructional media. FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Simulation Coordinator acts as a liaison with administration, faculty, and students in providing simulation-based education to fulfill the needs of the nursing curriculum. Other functions and responsibilities are the same as other faculty to the University, College of Education and Health Sciences, and the Department of Nursing. In addition, the Simulation Coordinator of the Department of Nursing shall: - Oversee the daily operations of the simulation and skills lab, including scheduling and coordinating activities with the Undergraduate Program Director and nursing faculty. - Maintain current knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and emerging applications of simulation equipment and technology through ongoing professional development and participation in recommended trainings. - Manage and maintain simulation equipment and supplies, ensuring they are in good working order through collaboration with the Undergraduate Program Director and Department of Nursing Assessment & Evaluation Coordinator. - Educate and support faculty in the use of simulation technology and methodologies. - Collaborate with faculty to evaluate student learning during simulation and skills curriculum. - Analyze the simulation curriculum and evaluation processes to ensure they support competency-based nursing education requirements as outlined in the updated AACN Essentials (2026). - Ensure the simulation and skills lab curriculum and evaluation processes comply with accreditation standards. - Provide or arrange for technological support for simulation as needed. - Implement plans, policies, and procedures for the Simulation Lab. - Coordinate and schedule the use of the Simulation Lab with all course levels and any outside users and oversee the integration of simulation into all levels of the nursing curriculum. - Develop, review, and revise in collaboration with faculty, policy and procedures related to simulation-based education. - Facilitate evaluation of the use of simulation in the nursing curriculum. - Achieve INACSL certification and maintain certification while continuously increasing expertise in simulation education. - Other duties as assigned by the Nursing Chairperson.
