The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is seeking a dedicated professional to perform routine building and grounds electrical work. If you have a passion for electrical systems and enjoy a variety of tasks throughout the day, from maintenance to special event support, we want to hear from you!</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p><em>Performs routine building and grounds electrical work.</em></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Electrical Maintenance and Repairs</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Installs and makes repairs and adjustments to such things as electrical controls, wiring, switches, simple appliances, and wall outlets.</li>\n <li>Makes minor repairs and adjustments to such things as electric motors, generators and similar equipment.</li>\n <li>Performs preventative maintenance tasks such as cleans, oils and maintains motors, brushes, bearings and switches.</li>\n <li>Installs and makes minor repairs to equipment such as air conditioners, motors, appliances, heating equipment and transformers.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Safety and Compliance</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Assumes responsibility for all secondary voltage on Zoo, Zoombezi Bay and Safari Golf Club grounds within and outside structures.</li>\n <li>Assures safety of self, staff, animals and guests through regular participation in safety training and activities; compliance with standard operating procedures; and proper operation and maintenance of equipment.</li>\n <li>Assures safety of visitors by blocking off hazardous areas.</li>\n <li>Interprets National Electric Code.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Operational Support</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Prepares job estimates for supervisor as requested.</li>\n <li>Provides support and assistance to any and all activities related to special events such as Wildlights and Zoofari.</li>\n <li>Assists other facilities staff when required.</li>\n <li>Participates in cross-training activities as directed.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Mission and Sustainability</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, Safari Golf Club and The Wilds.</li>\n <li>Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.</li>\n <li>If applicable, monitors and distributes chemical supply products and follows standardized usage guidelines and safety information as set by the Material Data Sheets to Facilities.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>Education and Training</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>High school diploma or equivalent required.</li>\n <li>Technical School (2-year degree) preferred.</li>\n <li>Completion of a 4-year training course as an apprentice electrician or Certificate of apprenticeship preferred.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Experience and Knowledge</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>5 years of electrical experience preferred.</li>\n <li>Minimum two years of journeyman experience as a building electrician preferred.</li>\n <li>Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and materials hazards, and safety precautions of the electrical trade, including knowledge of the National Electrical Codes preferred.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Skills and Abilities</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Skills in the use of the tools, materials, and equipment used in the electrical trade required.</li>\n <li>Skills in locating and adjusting defects in electrical systems and equipment required.</li>\n <li>Ability to make estimates of time and material.</li>\n <li>Ability to work from drawings and specification and to effectively carry out oral and written instructions.</li>\n <li>Ability to maintain simple records.</li>\n <li>Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing required.</li>\n <li>Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays required, and being on-call on an emergency basis.</li>\n <li>Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner and without direct supervision required.</li>\n <li>Ability to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the guest service standards.</li>\n <li>Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Zoo team members and contacts regarding company business required.</li>\n <li>Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Additional Requirements</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Proof of negative TB screening prior to placement and annually thereafter required.</li>\n <li>Possession of a valid state issued motor vehicle operator’s license and a good driving record required.</li>\n <li>Ability to adhere to the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and follow-up treatment required.</li>\n <li>Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.</li>\n</ul>",
