Birchmount Community Action Council (BCAC) in partnership with FoodShare Toronto strive to create a workspace that reflects the diversity of identities and lived experiences that exist within the communities we work alongside. Birchmount Community Action Council (BCAC) is a member of the FoodShare’s Supportive Partnership Platform program which provides support to community organizations including but not limited to administrative, financial management and hiring support. BCAC is a resident-led council dedicated to making the Loneview neighbourhood safer and more vibrant by creating opportunities for community recreation and local food production.

Job Summary :
Birchmount Community Action Council (BCAC) is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Event Coordinator to support the planning and execution of community-based events. The successful candidate will work closely with staff and local partners to ensure events align with our food security, youth engagement, and environmental education goals.
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and requires that the applicants:
Be between 15-30 years of age (inclusive) Be Canadian Citizens, permanent residents, or persons on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and coordinate logistics for events, including community gatherings, workshops, and other food-focused activities. Create promotional materials and support community outreach partner organizations Provide on-site support during events to ensure smooth execution Support post-event evaluations and data entry Repetitive tasks such as bending, crouching, reaching, and lifting up to 50lbs Full shifts standing and working on your feet Use of hand tools and mechanized equipment Working outdoors in all kind of weather (heat, sun, rain & cold) Working some evening and weekends as well as occasional holidays
Qualifications :
2+ years of strong organizational and time management skills working with community projects 1+ year of experience planning and organizing community gatherings and workshops Previous experience working and volunteering in Birchmount is preferred Excellent written and verbal communication Ability to work independently and in diverse teams Experience with Canva, Google Suite, and social media tools is an asset Passion for community engagement, food justice, or social equity
Job Requirements:

Total Compensation & Benefits:
Salary: $17.60/ Hour Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract (35 hours per week) Duration : 8 week Reports to: Community Action Support Program Sr. Manager Vacation: Vacation in pay (4%) + 3 paid days for wellness and sick days Location(s) of Position: In-person at 1021 Birchmount Rd. Scarborough, ON with some virtual days. Available positions: 1 Anticipated start date: June 22, 2026

Selection Process:
The first step in the hiring process is for FoodShare’s HR team to screen applications to determine which demonstrate meeting the posting’s base qualifications. Please make sure to detail your experience in your resume/cover letter to ensure the committee has the information they need to assess your qualifications for the role. This process takes at least 2 weeks from the application deadline. The hiring committee will review the applications that pass the initial screening and decide which candidates to invite to interview. This process usually takes about 1 week. The hiring committee will conduct first round interviews with selected candidates. Candidates will be sent the interview questions 48 hours in advance of their scheduled interview. Candidates are welcome, but not expected or required, to send any questions they have for the hiring committee in advance of the interview. These interviews usually occur about 4 weeks after the application deadline. The hiring committee may conduct a second round of interviews, which may include a pre-interview assignment, which would be compensated. HR will conduct reference checks for the candidate they intend to extend an offer to. This process usually takes about 1 week. HR will send the selected candidate and Employment Agreement, which the candidate will have at least 1 week to review and return. Please note:
