Description

Overview The Senior Cloud Engineer serves as a senior technical expert responsible for designing, implementing, and managing hybrid IT environments that leverage Amazon Web Services (AWS) and on‑premises Windows Server infrastructure. This role provides strategic and hands-on engineering support for enterprise applications and critical mission needs, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability. This position aligns with Cayuse’s core values of Innovation, Excellence, Collaboration, Adaptability, and Integrity by fostering technical solutions that meet customer needs, promoting teamwork, and prioritizing quality in deliverables. Responsibilities Lead the engineering, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise applications hosted in AWS and on‑premises Windows Server environments. Provide operations and maintenance (O&M) support, including patching, hardening, system upgrades, performance tuning, and routine maintenance. Deliver infrastructure support during core and non-core hours, as needed, to meet mission and operational requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Cloud Engineers, Database Administrators, and Security Engineers—to ensure system compliance, reliability, and security. Support application development, deployment, and lifecycle management activities in close coordination with internal and external stakeholder teams. Design, implement, and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure proactive identification and resolution of issues. Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system designs, configuration standards, runbooks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Identify opportunities for automation and optimization within the environment and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in cloud engineering, systems engineering, or a closely related discipline. Bachelor’s degree (4-year) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Strong expertise with AWS services, including but not limited to: S3, EC2, ECS, RDS, VPC, CloudWatch Advanced Windows Server administration experience, including installation, configuration, security hardening, patching, and performance optimization. Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools). Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and auto-scaling solutions in cloud environments. Experience supporting the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and working within Agile/Scrum/Kanban frameworks. Proficiency with Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence for work management and documentation. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose complex technical issues across application, network, and infrastructure layers. Excellent technical writing and documentation skills, including the ability to create clear diagrams, procedures, and design artifacts. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize tasks, and identify and implement system and process improvements. Proven experience mentoring junior team members and contributing to team capability growth is highly desirable. Active Top Secret Security Clearance is required. Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment. Minimum Skills Required: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to respond effectively to customers with a sense of urgency. Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc. Highly motivated with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks at any one time. Ability to forge new relationships, individual and teaming in nature. Must be a Self-starter, that can work independently and as part of a team.
