Job Summary The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physics in the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences within the College of Arts and Sciences, to begin August 2026. We seek a dynamic scholar with demonstrative excellence in research, teaching, and mentorship, who will actively contribute to the continued growth of the School’s research and graduate programs. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally-funded research program, contribute to high-quality instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and engage in collaborative, interdisciplinary research in theoretical/computational physics aligned with the University’s expanding R1 research profile. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Conduct original, high-impact research and pursue sustained external funding. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in physics and related areas. Supervise and mentor undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students. Contribute to curriculum innovation and the development of new interdisciplinary programs. Participate actively in service at the School, College, and University levels. Foster a collegial and inclusive academic environment that promotes student success and research excellence. Performs other duties as assigned.
