Description
Description
You Are:
A strategic, equity-driven instructional leader with deep expertise in literacy development, language acquisition, and systems leadership. You believe all students — including multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and students historically underserved by school systems — deserve access to rigorous, joyful, grade-level learning experiences that develop strong reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills.
You are energized by building coherent PK-12 systems that strengthen instruction, accelerate student outcomes, and develop leader and teacher capacity. You know how to move between vision-setting and execution: analyzing data, coaching leaders, managing teams, strengthening instructional systems, and ensuring compliance while never losing sight of the student experience. You are an exceptional collaborator and communicator who can influence across campuses and functions to drive ambitious literacy outcomes.
You have a growth mindset, lead with urgency and care, and are committed to creating the conditions for all students and staff to succeed.
About the Position
The Director of Literacy and Language Acquisition leads the vision, strategy, and execution of E.L. Haynes’ PK-12 literacy and multilingual learner programming. This leader is responsible for driving strong literacy outcomes across campuses through coherent instructional systems, leader and teacher development, data-driven improvement, and high-quality multilingual learner services.
The Director directly manages literacy and language acquisition staff, including Multilingual Learner (MLL) Instructional Specialists and literacy-focused instructional support staff, and partners closely with principals, academic leaders, intervention teams, and teachers to strengthen Tier 1 instruction and targeted supports across all grade levels.
This role is responsible for ensuring that literacy instruction and language acquisition practices are rigorous, inclusive, evidence-based, and aligned to organizational priorities. The Director also oversees compliance related to multilingual learner programming and serves as a key strategic leader in advancing equitable academic outcomes for all students.
This is a 12-month position reporting to the Managing Director of Instruction.
Starting salary: $95,904 - $106,355

Coach and Develop Leaders and Staff
Directly manage and develop MLL Specialists and MLL teachers across our elementary, middle and high school campuses;
Build leader and teacher capacity through coaching, modeling, feedback cycles, and professional development;
Support principals and instructional leaders in monitoring literacy instruction, student progress, and intervention effectiveness;
Design and facilitate high-impact professional learning for teachers, leaders, and support staff;

Strengthen Multilingual Learner Programming and Compliance
Oversee the implementation and effectiveness of PK-12 multilingual learner programming;
Ensure compliance with federal, local, and OSSE requirements related to multilingual learner identification, services, progress monitoring, accommodations, and reporting;
Analyze data to determine trends in student performance, response to programmatic interventions, and professional learning needs;

Support the selection, implementation, and refinement of literacy and language acquisition curricular resources and assessments;
Participate in instructional leadership meetings and organization-wide planning efforts;
Build systems and structures that support sustainable implementation and continuous improvement; and
Contribute to a strong adult culture rooted in accountability, collaboration, equity, and continuous learning.
Qualifications
You have:
7-10 years of instructional leadership and/or teaching experience in literacy, multilingual learner education, or related fields in racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse schools;
An advanced degree in literacy, reading, TESOL, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or a related field;
