Description
Position Overview:
The RFID Printer Technician is responsible for supporting the deployment and upgrade of RFID-enabled printing
solutions across customer shipper locations. This role is critical to the successful rollout of RFID tunnel
implementations by ensuring that all printers are properly installed, configured, and validated to meet operational
and labeling requirements.
The technician will replace existing printers with RFID-capable Zebra printers, configure settings to match existing
print formats, and verify that RFID tags are properly encoded and embedded within labels.
Key Responsibilities
Printer Installation & Upgrade:
• Replace existing non-RFID printers with RFID-capable printers (primarily Zebra models)
• Install, configure, and test printers at customer shipper locations
• Ensure all hardware is properly connected (network, power, peripherals)
Configuration & Validation:
• Configure printer settings to match existing label formats and workflows
• Validate that labels print identically to current output (format, barcode, readability)
• Verify correct RFID encoding and successful tag embedding in each label
Ensure EPC/tag data is written correctly during print operations
• Perform test prints and scan validation to confirm system accuracy
RFID & Printing QA:
• Troubleshoot encoding failures, print issues, and connectivity problems
• Identify and resolve issues related to tag readability, encoding errors, or label defects
• Assist in diagnosing printer performance problems (configuration, media, hardware)
Deployment Support:
• Support RFID tunnel rollout projects in coordination with implementation and project teams
• Participate in onsite installations, cutovers, and go-live support
• Document configurations and installation steps for consistency across locations
Maintenance & Support:
• Provide ongoing support for deployed printers (break/fix, reconfiguration, tuning)
• Ensure printers remain calibrated and operate within required specifications
• Assist in developing SOPs and best practices for printer setup and maintenance
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• 2+ years of experience with thermal printers (Zebra preferred)
• Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting hardware in the field
• Basic understanding of RFID technology and label encoding
• Strong attention to detail—especially in validation and quality assurance
• Ability to follow technical procedures and ensure consistency across deployments
• Comfortable working in warehouse, shipping, or industrial environments
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with RFID printers, tagging, or AIDC solutions
• Familiarity with Zebra ZPL and printer configuration tools
• Experience supporting large-scale rollouts or multi-site deployments
• Knowledge of barcode standards and label formatting
• Understanding of RFID tunnels, portals, or supply chain workflows
Additional Requirements
• Ability to travel (up to 50–75% depending on rollout phase)
• Ability to lift and install hardware equipment (printers, mounting kits, etc.)
• Strong communication skills for working with onsite operators and project teams
Success Metrics
• % of successful printer installs completed without rework
• Accuracy of label output and RFID encoding validation
• Reduction in print/encoding-related issues post-deployment
• Speed and consistency of rollout across shipper locations
