Position Title: Residence Director, Graduate Student
Department: Student Affairs
Reports To: Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life
Work Hours: 25 hours
Status: Full-time; Graduate Staff

SUMMARY
The Resident Director (RD) position is a part-time (0.75 FTE) graduate staff member who resides in
a residence hall on campus. The RD position is a 12-month position with expectations of 25 office
hours per week with additional responsibilities related to program attendance and on– call duty
rotation. The RD is to create and maintain a vibrant program in the residence halls in which the
greatest educational, social, and cultural values for the individual student will be realized. The RD is
responsible for the supervision of 4-6 Resident Assistants and overseeing one residence hall with
approximately 125 students.
SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE*
Staff Supervision
The Resident Director is responsible for the following staff supervision in their assigned building/area:
• Supervise and evaluate Resident Assistants.
• Plan and conduct staff meetings with the Residence assistants on a weekly basis.
• Meet with each staff member individually on a regular basis.
• Plan and implement staff development programs.
• Advise staff on appropriate student and floor interventions.
• Participating in recruitment, hiring and training of Resident Assistants.
• Evaluating Resident Assistant performance regularly on an informal basis and formally once/twice a year.
Community Development
The Resident Director is responsible for the following aspects of community development in their assigned building/area:
• Facilitate development of community by creating opportunities for residents to interact; conduct hall meetings; educate residents about Civic and Community Responsibilities; and initiate discussions between roommates through use of the Roommate Agreement form.
• Plan, organize and implement events and activities that meet the needs of residents according to departmental programming model.
• Mediate conflicts that may occur between roommates and among residents.
• Address individual student needs and concerns.
• Collaborate with the RA Staff to implement floor programming.
• Assist with the creation and implementation of departmental wide programming including and not limiting to residential orientation and end of the year celebration
Operations
The Resident Director is responsible for the following aspects of operations in their assigned building/area:
• Assist with opening and closing of their building or area.
• Conducts regular health and safety inspections.
• Coordinates follow-up for all maintenance and housekeeping concerns/requests through, and with, the Office.
• Conducts weekly walk through of building.
• Maintains regular office hours balanced between mornings, afternoons, and evenings.
• Assists with check-in/out procedures and room changes.
Department and College Relations
The Resident Director participates in the following Departments and College Relations:
• Attend in-service training programs, and one-on-one meetings with the Assistant Director of Residence Life for Community Development
• Attend office staff meetings as required.
• Maintaining a flow of communication with the Assistant Director of Residence Life and other Student Affairs departments.
• Acting as a liaison between the students in the hall and the Student Life Staff.
• Participation in special campus committees and projects as needed.
• Develop programs to meet the needs of Rosemont College Students.
• Participate in on-call duty rotation with other professional staff within the Office of Residence Life.
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
• Prior residence hall or student leadership experience at the undergraduate level.
• Bachelor's degree
• Acceptance to a master's degree program at the college.
• Leadership, communication, interpersonal and proven hall programming skills.
COMPENSATION
• Efficiency Apartment, meal plan, a monthly stipend of $600, 6 credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring only).
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree and be accepted to a master's degree program at the college.
