Description
Hope Academy of West Michigan is seeking a Math Interventionist (EX certified), or English as a Second Language (NS certified) Interventionist for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year.
General Purpose: The Academic Interventionist is accountable to the Principal and function as a member of the Hope Academy team, which consists of classroom teachers, instructional support staff, school social workers, the principal, and the administrative assistant. The interventionist is responsible for developing students' academic skills through courses of study and implementing district approved curriculum; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing feedback regarding student progress, expectations, goals, and activities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Administers specific assessments and/or tests for the purpose of assessing the level of students’ competencies and determining student progress. Determines need for interventions and sets schedule for those interventions. Assists and supports staff to adhere to intervention plans of students.
2. Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
3. Assesses student progress, expectations, and goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration, and implementing intervention plans as a team.
4. Maintains appropriate records for the purpose of preserving the progress of the interventions in place. Reports on such progress to the weekly RTI team on each student with an intervention plan.
5. Collaborates with a variety of parties (e.g. instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, achieving established program objectives, and/or planning curriculum.
6. Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
7. Directs paraprofessionals, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
8. Instructs students using Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions to appropriate students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study.
9. Participates in and monitors students in a variety of educational environments and activities (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, sporting events, academic events, vocational events, motivational activities, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment and serving as a positive role model for students.
10. Participates in a variety of events (e.g. book studies, quarterly monitoring sessions, meetings, trainings, workshops, seminars, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions. Researches a variety of topics and/or teaching styles for the purpose of obtaining knowledge and/or information to utilize in the classroom setting. Participates in and functions as a positive team member for the purpose of enhancing/sharing knowledge and skills for delivering best practices.
11. Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. students, other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information, and/or direction.
12. Supports other teachers for the purpose of providing assistance, guidance, and/or aid to colleagues.
13. Supports English language learners for the purpose of students acquiring math and reading/literacy skills through appropriate strategies, activities, and material selection.
14. Assists with coverage of arrival, passing time, the eating area during breakfast/lunch, and dismissal from school. Assists with test proctoring, as needed.
15. Coordinates/maintains a productive daily schedule for the purpose of completing reports, instructional activities, and other duties. Structures time effectively; meets schedules and deadlines.
16. Performs all other duties, as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The minimum qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of the job such as education, experience, competencies, knowledge and skills are listed below.
Qualifications : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability or competence required.
Education and/or Experience: Teaching degree from an accredited college or university; certification required. Experience working with emotionally/behaviorally impaired adolescents is preferred.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematic Skills: Ability to do simple computations, calculate percentages, and use a calculator.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft applications and/or willingness to learn needed computer skills specific to this position.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Michigan teaching certification. Mathematics (EX) 6-12 or English as a Second Language (NS) Endorsement required . Must meet highly qualified status according to the Michigan Department of Education for the subjects being taught.
Training: Must participate in and complete annual training, Professional Development, and various other training as deemed appropriate for position.
Other Qualifications: Must pass criminal history records search, physical and drug screen, if required.
