The population served is one third single women, one third couples with a female head of household, and one third people over 55.  Bertha’s place is a secure access 24-hour/7-day a week low barrier shelter with the primary goal of helping support residents to regain permanent housing.   </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Shelter Staff provide supervision, program structure, behavior management and a wide range of basic needs services, as well as more advanced social services. This includes helping guests navigate a myriad of social service agencies, forms and interviews. Staff are trained in behavior management, basic case services, as well as Motivational Interviewing and other counseling skills.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Shelter Responsibilities\n  <ul>\n   <li>Ensure a safe, welcoming, supportive environment for shelter guests and staff.</li>\n   <li>Monitor traffic at the front door and outside of the facility in the immediate area surrounding the shelter, ensuring only residents of the shelter or authorize personnel enter the building.</li>\n   <li>Develop supportive relationship with guests by using motivational interviewing strategies.</li>\n   <li>Respond to guests who are in crisis, disruptive, or having medical emergencies.</li>\n   <li>Provide behavioral management for a diverse population including individuals with chemical dependency and/or mental health issues.</li>\n   <li>Write timely, professional, and behaviorally descriptive Incident Reports or Ban Reports when incidents or disruptive behaviors occur.</li>\n   <li>Provide services, resources, and information to guests.</li>\n   <li>Work with volunteers, the volunteer coordinator, and community partners to provide food and meals for guests. </li>\n   <li>Help maintain health and safety of the facility as well as monitoring client rooms for health and safety concerns.</li>\n  </ul></li>\n <li>Security Responsibilities\n  <ul>\n   <li>Monitor behaviors in and around the Bertha’s Place and parking lot assuring policies and procedures are enforced.</li>\n   <li>Provide information and referral services to guests and homeless individuals.</li>\n   <li>Patrol parking lot and immediate surrounding areas to ensure the safety of guests, residents, and businesses.</li>\n   <li>Make contact with businesses in the patrol area to form and maintain positive community relations.</li>\n   <li>Coordinate with other the Bertha’s Place Shelter staff for back up to deal with challenging situations.</li>\n   <li>Coordinate with Bertha’s Place staff that are monitoring the security cameras.</li>\n   <li>Utilizes the Vancouver Police Department as needed.</li>\n  </ul></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong><u>Minimum Qualifications</u></strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>High school diploma or GED.</li>\n <li>Must obtain Food Handler’s card within first 3 months of employment.</li>\n <li>Experience working with diverse populations including people with active mental health and chemical dependency issues is a plus.</li>\n <li>Possess good verbal and written communication.</li>\n <li>Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment.</li>\n <li>Ability to provide a negative TB test.</li>\n <li>Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy, (required to provide current driving abstract)</li>\n <li>Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile Insurance.</li>\n <li>Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services</li>\n <li>Support and contribute to a creative, collaborative and respectful environment that promotes teamwork</li>\n <li>Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Note to Internal Candidates:</strong> HR reviews internal compensation and determines increase based on their experience and also agency internal equity factors.</p>\n<p>Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer</p>\n<p>Please let us know if you need special accommodations to apply or interview for this position.</p>",
