This role supports both shop and field operations by ensuring generators operate reliably and meet manufacturer specifications. The Generator Technician works closely with service management, dispatch, and customers to complete work orders accurately, safely, and efficiently while maintaining high standards of technical quality and customer service.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Knowledge and Skill Requirements:</strong></p><ul><li>Understanding of diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, and generator controls.</li><li>Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.</li><li>Proficiency with diagnostic tools, multimeters, load banks, and service software.</li><li>Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, supervisors, and team members.</li><li>Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues independently.</li><li>Knowledge of safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and electrical safety practices.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Preferred Qualification(s):</strong></p><ul><li>Experience working with power generation equipment, transfer switches, or industrial electrical systems.</li><li>Familiarity with Caterpillar generator systems and dealer service processes.</li><li>Certifications or training in electrical systems, power generation, or diesel technology.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Education Requirements:</strong></p><ul><li>High School Diploma or equivalent required.</li><li>Technical training or an Associate degree in diesel technology, electrical technology, or a related field preferred.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Essential Job Functions:</strong></p><ul><li>Diagnose and repair generator engines, alternators, control systems, and electrical components.</li><li>Perform preventative maintenance including inspections, fluid changes, adjustments, and testing.</li><li>Conduct load bank testing and verify generator performance under operating conditions.</li><li>Troubleshoot electrical faults, wiring issues, and control panel malfunctions.</li><li>Document all findings, parts used, and repair actions in work orders.</li><li>Communicate equipment condition, repair recommendations, and job status to supervisors and customers.</li><li>Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and safe condition.</li><li>Follow all safety procedures and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.</li><li>Support emergency service calls and after hours work when required.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Leadership Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Support less experienced technicians by sharing knowledge and proper diagnostic techniques.</li><li>Promote a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.</li><li>Assist in training new technicians on generator systems and service procedures.</li><li>Represent the company professionally during customer interactions.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Preferred Experience and Skills:</strong></p><ul><li>Hands on experience with generator diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, and engine repair.</li><li>Strong problem solving skills with the ability to identify root causes quickly.</li><li>Familiarity with Caterpillar ET, power generation software, and related diagnostic tools.</li><li>Ability to work independently in both shop and field environments.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Physical and Mental Requirements:</strong></p><ul><li>Ability to lift, carry, or move heavy components and tools as required.</li><li>Ability to stand, bend, climb, or work in confined spaces for extended periods.</li><li>Ability to wear required PPE in shop and field environments.</li><li>Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accuracy in a fast paced setting.</li><li>Must meet requirements for driving company vehicles.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Work Environment:</strong></p><ul><li>Work performed in primarily field environments with exposure to noise, machinery, and weather conditions.
