The Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine, a preliminary accredited medical school with the LCME located in Fayetteville, NC, and welcoming its charter class July 20, 2026, seeks a DIVISION HEAD for the Division of Health Systems Science. Our mission of social accountability and community engagement, with an equity focus, places a high value on Health System Science. The DIVISION HEAD will lead the division, oversee our “Empowering the 910: Bridging Health Disparities” course, participate in Health Systems Science education throughout our Clinical Presentation Curriculum, and direct the development of a research agenda for the division in conjunction with our dean of research. Qualified applicants will have either an MD or DO degree, or a doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health). For physicians, up to 40% time will be allocated to clinical care in the Cape Fear Valley Health system. Experience in undergraduate or graduate medical education, and evidence of leadership are desired.
Responsibilities
Further the mission, vision, and goals of Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine
Continuously improve and deliver clinically focused health systems science content within a team-taught, spirally integrated, clinical presentation curriculum.
Oversee update of course syllabi, learning objectives, content, and assessments.
Ensure that health systems science content is woven fully into the clinical presentation curriculum and the clinical education curriculum to distinguish the curriculum of MCFV from other medical schools.
Participate in the education of medical students across all three phases of the curriculum.
Serve as health systems science content lead within a completely integrated pre-clerkship curriculum.
Participate in LCME accreditation activities as a leader in the medical school.
Define and engage in a research/scholarly agenda for Health System Science for the medical school.
Participate in relevant health system, medical school, and university committees.
Participate in relevant regional and national organizations.
Role model professionalism and adhere to institutional policies and procedures.
Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Earned MD, DO, Ph.D. or other terminal degree in a field germane to Health Systems Science.
Preferred to have teaching experience at the medical school level.
Demonstrated commitment to innovative educational approaches.
Experience in teaching health systems science within an integrated, team-taught curriculum that uses very limited lecturing.
Evidence of a scholarly approach to education and evidence of scholarship in the field of health systems science or medical education.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent organizational skills
Experience using different active learning modalities
Proficiency with writing NBME-style questions
Experience with curricular and instructional design
Experience with curriculum management software systems
Emerging or established regional or national reputation
Prior experience as a discipline lead and/or a preclerkship course director
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in complex interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings
Experience with a clinical presentation curriculum is desired
Credentials
MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree

The DIVISION HEAD will lead the division, oversee our “Empowering the 910: Bridging Health Disparities” course, participate in Health Systems Science education throughout our Clinical Presentation Curriculum, and direct the development of a research agenda for the division in conjunction with our dean of research. Qualified applicants will have either an MD or DO degree, or a doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health). For physicians, up to 40% time will be allocated to clinical care in the Cape Fear Valley Health system.
