This role builds deep expertise in the core competencies of successful buying, including:\r\n- Advanced category management\r\n- Strategic assortment planning\r\n- Vendor partnership development\r\n- Margin optimization strategies\r\n- Cross-functional collaboration with marketing and operations\r\n- Negotiation skill development \r\nKey Responsibilities\r\n \r\nVendor & Cross-Functional Relationships\r\n- Develop strong, effective vendor partnerships\r\n- Collaborate with suppliers on product development and with the Global Sourcing team on private brand and product label development\r\n- Manage vendor allowances, marketing programs, and promotional strategies\r\n- Negotiate pricing, vendor terms, opportunity buys, and free goods\r\n- Serve as the main point of contact for Stores and Distribution Centers\r\n- Partner with Logistics and DC teams to optimize product flow to stores\r\n- Work closely with Replenishment and Planning teams on product flow and order management\r\n- Visit Rural King stores to maintain open communication and understand in-store challenges\r\n \r\nProduct Management\r\n- Monitor market trends and competitive landscape\r\n- Manage product pricing, sales, profit margins, and turnover to meet budgeted targets\r\n- Identify and pursue new product opportunities that align with customer needs\r\n- Conduct 2–3 annual category line reviews and support other category duties as assigned\r\n- Develop seasonal merchandise assortments, pricing, and merchandising plans\r\n- Attend product shows and visit suppliers as relevant to assigned categories\r\n \r\nPlanning & Analysis\r\n- Place, track, and ensure timely delivery of all new store orders\r\n- Collaborate with Inventory Planners to analyze and improve product performance\r\n- Review recommendations and determine appropriate actions on inventory strategies\r\n- Monitor seasonal product performance and react accordingly\r\n- Partner with Marketing on advertising plans, promotions, and ad flyers\r\n- Maintain current knowledge of sales, inventory, and profit trends\r\n- Generate and interpret reports to support data-driven decisions\r\n- Manage assortment planning and product lifecycle processes\r\n- Help create financial plans (Open-to-Buy) aligned with company goals\r\n- Work with Replenishment Analysts to optimize in-stock levels on core items\r\n- Identify and address poor-performing items and reduce inventory liabilities\r\n- Collaborate on preseason flow plans and inventory projections\r\n \r\nAdvertising & Promotion\r\n- Develop and submit promotional plans that drive sales and store traffic\r\n- Ensure 98.5% in-stock accuracy for print advertising items\r\n- Collaborate with the Digital Aisle Team on assortment, placement, promotions, and marketing strategies—a key focus area\r\n \r\nStore Planning\r\n- Provide timely direction on new SKUs and programs to Store Planning\r\n- Ensure planograms are accurate, timely, and appropriate to store volume and space\r\n \r\nTeam Leadership & Development\r\n- Lead teams to drive sales, manage inventory, and meet financial goals\r\n- Communicate a clear strategic vision, including visual merchandising strategies\r\n- Inspire and mentor team members to grow personally and professionally\r\n- Lead impactful projects that support Rural King’s success and growth\r\n- Influence the strategic direction of the department\r\n- Exhibit leadership principles taught in Rural King’s Thrive Leadership Program\r\n- Exercise independent judgment and maintain confidentiality\r\n- Actively participate in training and professional development opportunities\r\n- Provide friendly, professional support to internal and external partners\r\n- Uphold Rural King’s core values:\r\n- People First\r\n- Integrity\r\n- Attitude\r\n- Initiative\r\n- Teamwork\r\n- Accountability\r\n- Continuous Improvement\r\n- Perform other duties as assigned\r\n- Successfully transition into a Buyer role within 18 months\r\n \r\nSupervisory Responsibilities \r\nNo",
