Description

Department Overview This is the second level of a two-level series. It is distinguished from the lower level by the responsibility for performing a wide variety of assignments and the assignment of more complex duties, including the transfer and transportation of patients. This position is also responsible for performing all functions of the lower level, Transportation Aide 1 responsibilities. All transport work is completed using the Teletracking transportation software and the current technology used to obtain transportation jobs. Function/Duties of Position Transports patients using wheelchair, stretcher, hospital bed, and morgue cart to and from various locations include, but not limited to: nursing units, diagnostics, pre-op, life flight pad and morgue. Transfer patients to and from stretcher, hospital bed, exam table and wheelchair using transportation-assist devices such as Hovermatts, Slipps, slider boards and backboards. Transports medical equipment, mail, labs, blood products and supplies to and from various locations within the OHSU environment. These locations are, but not limited to: nursing units, diagnostic areas, clinics, exam rooms, operating rooms, laboratories, morgue or offices. Operates elevators for patient and equipment movement. Relieves elevator attendants for breaks. Cleans and disinfects transportation medical equipment: stretchers, wheelchairs, morgue carts, HoverMatts, pillows and utility transport carts. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED Complete in-house training for biohazardous items BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation. Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies): Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions in English. Excellent communication with public and staff. Strong customer service experience. Must have a positive and pleasant attitude. Ability to prioritize daily tasks to maximize efficiency and patient experience. Ability to multitask and function in stressful situations. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation Preferred Qualifications Healthcare or hospital experience. Experience in safe transporting of patients, specimens, blood products, equipment and supplies Additional Details Risk of exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness. Risk of exposure to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations. Risk of exposure to frustrated or violent patients PPE when necessary: gloves, mask and gown Work holidays Position is considered an essential role in hospital operations and providing/supporting patient care. Ability to walking or stand for long periods of time Ability to safely lift and transfer equipment and supplies Ability to prioritize assignments to maximize customer satisfaction Ability to function under stressful situations Frequent bending, crouching, kneeling, turning and twisting Occasional stooping Frequent handling and reaching Frequent carrying and lifting of medical equipment, e.g. pumps, air mattresses, Hovermatts, etc. Frequent pushing and pulling of medical equipment, e.g. stretchers, beds, carts, etc. Why apply to OHSU?
