Position Title: Special Education Teacher About KCIA: Kansas City International Academy (KCIA) is a kindergarten through 8th grade charter school located in the Kansas City Missouri School District. KCIA's focus is creating a world class school with an international focus. Many of KCIA's students are members of families who have immigrated to Kansas City from more than 25 different countries. Approximately 60% of our students are English Language Learners, who speak over 15 different languages.  100% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. We embrace the diversity of our student body and we are honored to make a difference in the lives of our vibrant international community of students every day. KCIA has an extensive, rigorous, and robust K-8 English Language Program. We have highly trained and experienced English language development teachers/specialists equipped to support our students’ language needs. Translators support newcomer students who need enriched language instruction. All of us at KCIA are excited about the continual academic success of our students. KCIA is a very special place for our students and staff as we continue to become one of the state's exemplary charter schools. KCIA is a special place that offers a community of love and care to our students, and an adult culture of substantial, personalized instructional support. About the Position: The Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows State mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students. Key Responsibilities: Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP. Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques. Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals. Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Programs (IEP) for students to include: the creation of  present levels of educational performance, identification of special education needs,  development and tracking of instructional goals and objectives, and determining the appropriate amount of special education and related services required to meet those goals. Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with child study team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies. Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP. Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources including various types of technology. Serves as primary contact for the parent. Assists in the special education evaluation and reevaluation process. Provides direction and supervision to paraeducators as necessary. Complies with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations. Completes all district and state reporting requirements. Qualifications: Must hold proper certification according to the state of Missouri.
